    Are they going to hatch?

This is coming just in time for me! We are using an incubator and decided to try 6 chicken eggs instead of our typical duck eggs. We were thrilled when our first 4 hatched wonderfully on days 21 & 22, but I am a little worried as now we are approaching day 25 with 2 left to go. We have been able...

what to grow in my run for my chickens to eat

Having that same problem. We used to let ours free range everyday while we were home, but due to the neighbors dog thinking my yard is a buffet, we can no longer due that. Everytime we cut grass, we throw the clippings in the run and they love it, along with some bugs that are hiding.

Everyone, post your best homemade chicken feed recipes!

We would love to not have to buy as much food also. We do plant oats, sunflowers, and beets, which they love and we find they don't eat as much of the mix. It just gets so pricey, especially when your egg money doesn't cover the cost of food. Once our young ones start laying better, then we can...

19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

Our new batch of barred rocks and sex-links are just beginning to lay and they are about 20 weeks. I do remember our Americaunas started laying way later then our Rhode islands. I love their colorful eggs, but they are not consistent layers. Enjoy that first egg when it comes, it is so exciting!:D

    Silkie sick with coccidisis??

Thank you. Getting ready to go to the feed store now. She is moving around more and eating and drinking, but I noticed some white poop in her fuzz under her. Unfortunately all the stores around were out of Corid. I called a vet and was told that medicated starter food also contains the same...

    Pekin Duck Eggs! Help!

Sorry to hear about your female. We lost our mating pair of pekins the end of may when their ducklings were almost 2 months old. We figure it was a coyote because there was no sign of them anywhere and they never left our property. Just keep a close eye on the eggs after they start hatching, we...

    Silkie sick with coccidisis??

Having a rough summer with our poultry this year. Our latest is my 8 week old silkie mix that I think has coccidisis. A day and a half ago I noticed bloody stool and had to massage her crop and a lot of fluid came out. Yesterday I noticed the white sticky, runny poop and again had to massage her...

How did my healty hen die?

Sounds possible.because she was standing right next to it. The pool is not very deep though, its just a kids turtle sand box. I could see maybe that a rooster was trying to go after her near the pool where it is wet/muddy also.

How did my healty hen die?

This morning I noticed one of my girls was next to the duck pool standing up with her eyes closed and she was all wet, and I had a hard time getting her to move. I picked her up and put her in the coop. When I came home from work I found her dead on the floor of the coop. Anyone have any ideas...

    what to feed them

I would also wait until they start laying for grit. Even when ours lay I find they really don't need it, their shells are very thick. Our flock loves grapes and strawberries! The moment we come outside and they see something in our hands, they all come running.
