When I ordered this batch of chicks I didn't see an option for the vaccine and didn't think of it, sadly. Am assuming they aren't automatically vaxed?
Next time, if there is one, I'll make sure of it. Still waiting to hear back about the necropsy results on the two chicks we lost. One valuable...
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts. My daughter held and comforted Zelda almost all day yesterday, which was healing for them both. So far, Zelda is doing very well. Still active, preening, making a lot of noise. We put a mirror and a little stuffed alien (thanks kids!) in her brooder, and...
So sorry to hear. We're in the same boat--lost two chicks in the past 24 hours. We received them from Meyer's on the 17th of April. One of them had symptoms of Marek's. The other just got super lethargic and died. We're heartbroken, and have one sad little chick left who is fine so far *knock wood.*
Hmmm...those two look like a couple we got last spring--a Buff Orpington (the blonde chick) and either a Dominique or Barred Plymouth Rock. But imagine I could be quite wrong. :) Still new to this!
Concur though about those Ameracauna chicks. Aren't they pretty?! :)
P.S. Granted, our chicks died within hours of showing symptoms, and yours haven't so....hope it's an easily fixable problem! It's that leg thing you describe....and the pic looks just like the first of our sick chicks.
Hate to say, but this sounds exactly like what we went through today and yesterday with two of our chicks. I suspect Marek's in both, and they died within 24 hours. I am sending them to be necropsied to know for sure.
We had a chick last year who had a vitamin b deficiency and her symptoms were...
Hi everyone!
Been so long since I posted. Last time I popped in was because our chick, Primrose (now a big healthy hen!), was having a lot of trouble walking. The wisdom shared here saved her life (vitamin deficiency)! She's in great shape, and lays gorgeous green eggs. :)
On April 17 we...
Totally forgot to write an update! The great news is that Prim is fine now! She can fly out of the brooder and perch on the side, which she was way too weak to do before. She keeps up with the other 4 chickens, and even picks little friendly squabbles with them now and then...a good sign, I'd...
My internet has been down for three days, grrr...or I would have posted sooner than this!
Prim is still not quite well. We started the vitamins on the 25th and now she seems to have more strength to stand, but she's not walking right yet and her breathing rocks her whole body. She's still...
Thanks so much, Wendy! I picked up some vites at the feed store and Prim has already had a few sips of her supplemented water. Fingers crossed she'll be magically healed! I'll post an update tomorrow.
Just want to bump this again in case anyone has thoughts for us.
I watched Prim at length last night and she's eating and drinking and moving around...it's not like she's listless, her legs are just super funky. When she walks she looks like an ice skater, and she can't stand up like she used...
Here's a pic of Prim from the 15th--she was standing just fine. Now she doesn't stand up like this, she waddles around with her belly almost on the floor.
Her feet are also grayish now, not yellowish like in this pic.
