Oh wow! I have the same problem! My barred rock and black australorp have had bare butts since March!! My RIR has patches that are missing! The only one that isn't missing feathers is my Red Star! So, I'm pretty sure that this is not a bug problem. So is the Red Star the 'picker'??? She...
I have 5 hens, all different breeds. Recently one (the Light Brahma) has been laying her eggs but the ends are barely closed. I can easily put a nail the end. It even looks thin. All the rest are laying fine eggs. They have oyster shell all the time and grit. I just don't know what's up...
Thanks :) that's a good idea about the roosts... I just assumed they needed to be high... I brought her in the house tonite and hope she's better in the morning. I don't want to lose her!
I was expecting large eggs and an egg almost every day. It took her the longest to start to lay and maybe get 3 a week. I would rather have one RED STAR than five Australorps. :)
Yesterday morning my Red Star was limping really badly when I let them out. She has done this once before - just not this badly - and got better. Today she is still limping as badly as before. She is eating and drinking and laying (she is my best layer!) but will not go too far when they are...
Two of my girls have red-butt and feathers missing everywhere on them and others... The only one who is okay (for now) is the red star... They all lay... They all seem okay - there is oyster shell for them always.... IDK - I have read most of the posts - I can dust for mites but I don't see any...
Thanks a lot, I will try the fruit. They are terribly bored - I let them out last week but we have had so much snow they would hardly come out of the coop. I suppose she is the lowest on the pecking order - she is the smallest - I have a Red Star, Rhode Island Red, Light Brahma and a Black...
I have a Barred Rock who the other hens are picking on. Now I noticed that the backs of her thighs are plucked clean!! It is so cold here lately...I am not only worried about her being cold but why are they picking on her? Is she sick? I have 5 hens all 5 are different breeds but have never...
So is it alright to eat these eggs with spots? I am a newbie... but a lot of mine have the spots. I only have 5 hens (each one a different breed) and they are 7 months old and have been laying for a couple of months.
The way they will enforce this, AND all the other 20,000 + regulations that Cass Sunstien thought up for the Communists that are now in charge, is that when you do something else wrong, or the country goes down and they want everyone to 'get on the train' and you don't because you are...
My chicks are 3 weeks old and they are trying to fly out of the stock tank I have them in! Can I clip their wings now? They are sharing the garage with our cats... needless to say if they get out, they will probably not survive! I only take the cover off to feed and clean, but that is when...
