    chicken bracelets??

Thank you for your input. The beads we were thinking about are very small, but the sole purpose is merely for dress up/cosmetic reasons. I didn't know if it would irritate their legs or how likely it would be that they'd snag it on something in the woods.

    chicken bracelets??

Found this post searching for chicken bracelets. I was wondering if there would be any foreseeable issues if we made anklets using zip ties and plastic alphabet beads. Our girls free range, so I have concerns as far as their safety (getting them snagged), as well as their health, would a...

    Potty Training Chickens, How-to!

I have a hen that just hatched eggs this weekend. Can you tell me how or is it too late? Would love to bring her inside, she's my sweetie. Thanks!

    Questions about a house duck

Thank you so very much for the information! I was wanting to just bring ONE in, but I have a dog too, so perhaps she would be enough company? But, I do work from home as well; however, I am widowed and have a pre-schooler, so there are times that we're not home - taking her to/from school...

    Questions about a house duck

I looked at the linked page and those before and after. Am not seeing anything. Can you confirm which post to look at? Thanks!

    Swimming

I have two Pekins, one we got from the shell, the other was basically a full grown rescue. The latter only ever wanted to swim in the water bowl and puddles - still does. The one we've had likes the pool as well as every other water source, regardless of the size or cleanliness. Anyway, our...

    Questions about a house duck

Hi there, I have a very confused Dominique hen that went broody on me. To appease her I got some fertile Pekin eggs, of which she has perched on for 27 days today. It's getting exciting!! Am wondering if you can give me the scoop on having a house duck. There are things I am curious about that...

    Are chickens dumb?

That's too cute! Mine's been sitting for ~3 weeks but I think I will try the fertile eggs. Someone had posted she'll feel movement in the eggs and stay on them.

    Are chickens dumb?

This is what mine did! I didn't take it as hiding eggs initially, but hindsight - I bet that's what she was doing! I didn't know she was laying in the old hen house. I noticed her going in there a few times so went out to investigate and there were a bunch of eggs! I enjoy reading the...

    Are chickens dumb?

I am so sorry to hear about the hawk, that's so very sad. After the knucklehead dog got my chicken I went out and bought a BB gun. I don't want to hurt the dog, especially since he is doing what (hunting) dogs do, but his owner wont keep him put up. But with my chickens it does seem like they...

    Are chickens dumb?

Pigs are super smart from what I have heard, I have a Coonhound like that. Actually she and the one I had before her do things that absolutely baffle me. In fact, my 4 year old just hollered at me that she dragged her bed from my bedroom through the kitchen and into the living room - apparently...

Chicken lost a lot of feathers in really cold weather

Thank you for all the information! I have never heard of warm foods or any of the things you mentioned. And, I am very happy to know that she likely didn't have any pain when she got her feathers cut - that did trouble me. I also didn't know that they don't all molt. My ducks molted, so I...

    Are chickens dumb?

Thank you for such a thoughtful reply Krista. I agree with you. My chicken seems to have some kind of feelings. Granted, not like a human, but she is showing some signs of pride and obviously a certain degree of care for the eggs she's sitting on. Pretty clever on your chicken getting into the...

Chicken lost a lot of feathers in really cold weather

This may not be the right place to post this, but it seemed to be the best place. My apologies if I am in the wrong area. I have a chicken (Dominique hen, 1 year old) that has apparently had some close calls here lately. Firstly, there is some guy messing with myself and three other single...
