1 out of 6 hens left. (Venting)

It was a bacterial infection. I haven’t found a vet in my area that actually has much experience with chickens. Both vets I took the last chicken to really didn’t seem to know anything about them even though they agreed to do the exam. The chicken in this post was taken to a lab for euthanasia...

1 out of 6 hens left. (Venting)

Heys guys, so I got the necropsy back. It turns out she had an infection. I believe the acronym was sps? Which we were told was common in backyard hens. It was apparently treatable with antibiotics if caught early. So, I’m pretty sad that there was something I could do about it. That leads me to...

We haven’t received it back yet. I’ll make an update when we do.

1 out of 6 hens left. (Venting)

I posted some months ago about a hen that had become sick and eventually passed after two vet visits and weeks of me trying everything to save her. Well, we had another chicken become ill. I had thought she was getting bullied so I would separate her so she could eat and drink. I was able to...

    Blood on eggs

So the one with the prolapse has been separated for about a week. Before the prolapse I noticed that the two white ones were pecking each other’s butt so I tried the blu kote spray to prevent that. This whole week I haven’t seen any pecking of the one that was left in the flock but she continues...

    Blood on eggs

No. I’ve been trying to get some general advice without the intervention of a vet.

    Blood on eggs

Sorry for the late reply. Here is a photo of the hen that prolapsed before we got her cleaned up for the night. I assumed it was a molt because we got both chickens at the same time and they’re around that age. We have restricted her to about 7 hours per day of light and have switched her to a...

Hen squinting eyes and acting lethargic

I see I never updated this thread. I took the hen to two vets. Neither one really knowing what it could be. She did end up passing unfortunately. I wish I could say I found out why in case anyone is searching for an answer to a hen they have that’s acting the same way. I did find out after the...

    Blood on eggs

Hey guys. I have two white leghorns that are molting. After they lost their vent feathers they started pecking each other so we separated them. One suffered a prolapse so I have her in a cage in a dark room trying to get her to stop laying. We’ve also been using preparation h and the prolapse...

Hen squinting eyes and acting lethargic

thank you for the info! I do also want to add that I did hear her sneeze today. I spent about 15 minutes in the run with her and she sneezed a couple of times. I’m not sure if that changes anything but I will check her crop and treat for the parasites tomorrow

Hen squinting eyes and acting lethargic

I am sorry it took so long to get back. The last few days have been crazy. The hen is still with us though! to answer your questions; no other symptoms but the lethargy and squinting. she is not laying eggs. It’s been awhile. Maybe a week since she’s laid. She was never the best layer so I...

Hen squinting eyes and acting lethargic

I have a hen around 1 year old that started squinting, acting lethargic, and tucking in her head as if she’s cold. It’s about 68 outside today and no other hens are showing these signs. I read something about a possible respiratory infection but all the treatments point to medication that is...

    Sudden death of two pullets

It doesn’t look as you described. I will take a closer look and clean everything out tomorrow before letting the girls out to be safe.

    Sudden death of two pullets

I don’t see any kind of mold in the food. I will dump out and refill just to be sure.
