    2 cockerels 4 hens? Really a problem?

Thanks all for your advise. So does it happen that some cockerels don't mate with the hens because the dominate one has control? Or will he just be waiting for an opportunity to jump one when the lead cockerel isnt watching? He's starting to crow more the last week or so.

    2 cockerels 4 hens? Really a problem?

Hello. So I hatched 2 cockerels 6 months ago (an exchequer leghorn and columbian blacktail) and they have joined the flock of 4 other hens (6 birds total). 1 cockerel is the boss, does most of the growing and bosses the girls about and mates then, the other one is the bottom of the pecking...

Breeding exchequer and red mottled leghorns... confused.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I've read it multiple times to try to full get my head around it. I think I get it.... Basically mottled is a certain and then the colour will be mixed? Then it may be possible to breed back to the pure colour after that though the offspring. Is there only...

Breeding exchequer and red mottled leghorns... confused.

Thanks for this. From that tool it looks like exchequer and red mottled would give exchequer. Not 100% sure though because I'm not sure I selected the correct colour/gene types as I know I've read in the past about the recessive e.... or something like that. Any clarity would be appreciated...

Breeding exchequer and red mottled leghorns... confused.

Hello. I'm hoping someone can help me in understand this. As I understand in the gene is recessive but I am struggling to fully grasp it. I have a young exchequer leghorn cockrel as in the photo. I'm thinking to get some red mottled leghorn pullets. If I cross these two birds what colour will I...

Introducing chick and mum to flock

So that didn't go very well tonight when they went to bed. Mum joined the main flock in the larger coop. The chicks joined her at first and then after the others went in there was a bit of pushing and pecking and then they (the chicks) came out and were very confused. 1 went back to the old coop...

Introducing chick and mum to flock

They do lay in them. The hen hatched the chicks in there. Sometimes they even share one. Each box is 250mm x 320mm floor spaxe. 4 in total but i only put straw in 2 (one side) as its easier to access not being against the fence.

Introducing chick and mum to flock

Alright I shall do in the morning. To me it's seems big enough. The 3 of them in there before didn't even take up 1 of the 3 perches. I bought it second-hand so I'm not actually sure which one it is. Thanks for your help In this regards, this forum is so helpful for a newbie trying to find...

Introducing chick and mum to flock

Oh. Ok. Thanks. I'll look into that. Think I actually have the slightly bigger one https://www.greenfrogdesigns.co.uk/chicken-loft-medium/ It's Internal Dimensions: 91 (w) x 77(h) x 115 (d) cm without nest boxes. Its is meant for at least 10 large fowl. It can easily have 3 to 4 chickens on...

Introducing chick and mum to flock

Ok. From tomorrow I'll leave them to it. I'm nervous because I rescued and nursed back to heath one of the younger chicks that one of the hens almost killed rarly on. Also the breeder told me to wait to 18months but that seems too long to me and might just make it harder when mum isn't around to...

Introducing chick and mum to flock

Ok. I've been letting them mingle the last few days. There's deffinately some tension. The mum chases the one that is the most interested and troublesome away but the other one is clearly the top hen and gives the chicks a clear warning to back off her patch but nothing too major yet. Mum hen...
