Love your post! Welcome, welcome!! I'm looking forward to you and Baby Chick Momma sharing more experiences.
The age of your chicks reminds me of my only regret -- not handling my darlings more. When I had them from 2-3 days up until turning them loose, I felt badly that I was creating a panic...
Hi Dawg,
Quick question regarding gathering fresh fecal samples...
If worms are found after microscope analysis, then I assume it doesn't matter WHICH bird dropped the winning sample because it's likely ALL birds could have worms and all should be treated?
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing Chucky with us. I am struggling with my decision earlier this spring to amputate the leg of a cockerel born with two deformities: one is a deformed foot on a good leg. The other is a leg which had a good foot but the leg faced backward from the hock. Whenever Larry Bird...
Welcome!!
I continue to be amazed at the chickens that just show up in folks yards! Glad to read the little gal crossed your path.
You mentioned having raised quail. My game ranger good friend has discouraged me from trying to raise quail because, in his words, "they are born looking for a...
You are definitely an angel to feel compassion for these innocent birds yet temper that instinct to rush to the rescue with the very real threat their conditions present to you and your gals. I have a lot to learn from you and all who have posted their notes of caution and advice. What a great...
Anyone for filling balloons with DE and throwing them at each other? Otherwise, maybe a deep breath and a big glass of brewed ice tea.
It's too hot to have a fire fight.
Good morning Tracy and thanks for the encouragement.
I am too, uh, chicken, to amputate myself. Have a great vet that I think would handle things nicely.
Did your little hen receive any kind of attachment to extend the stump to the ground to match the good leg?
Is such a thing possible?
Thanks...
I'm so glad to just type in "amputation" and find close to what I need!
A friend texted me about a 2-month old cockrell she hatched that had a bad, possibly broken and badly healed leg. The little guy was no longer eating, losing feathers and despondent, especially with the rest of the flock...
Ahhh... Thanks for the tip on the icon. I love this forum to the point where I am happy to give it financial support but I will definitely try the mountain/sun icon.
Happy to announce we have now gathered our first 2 eggs from the pullets. They are, to my husband's surprise, half the size of...
Nope. Still getting the "You Don't Have Permission to Create Attachments" pop-up message when I click on the paper clip.
Thanks for the advice. I'm looking forward to asserting my Momma-ness on the pullets over the coming days. The trick will be to convince them to enter the coop in the first...
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Unfortunately, that is the information I received when I contacted Backyard Chickens support. That's how I learned it was a policy to help keep spammers at bay... I wanted to enter a pic of my seven dust bathing... got a "no permission" pop-up message.
Will...
Wish I could post pics but the Backyard Chickens anti-spam philosophy is to block user ability to upload pictures until there has been sufficient interaction with the website/forums. I haven't reached that point yet, apparently. Maybe I should post a bunch of smiley faces to other users happy...
I have four Red Stars that are wonderful companions -- and patient with me when I need a chicken hug. As expected, though, they are gleefully domineering over the seven mixed brown egg layers I got Dec. 1 from My Pet Chicken. The now 5-month-old pullets are close to reaching egg laying maturity...
