Then, is she apt to die? It may seem ridiculous, but we do love her and don't want her to suffer. We were unaware of the issues that sexlinked birds face and would not have bought her if we'd realized they're not meant to be "pets". That said, if I can help her I definitely want to...
Hi, All:
Odd that I've just started checking in here again recently; one of my birds has just begun acting strangely.
Penny, our "cinnamon queen", was standing in a corner when I went to put the girls to bed. She doesn't seem hurt or sick, but if she's moved from the corner, she eventually...
How about,
"Don't pick up (so and so), she just got poop foot."
"OMG, what's THAT Penny just caught... she's EATING it!!"
"Honey, (so and so) needs some vent work" (This during pasty butt period in chicks' lives)
While at farmstand, farmers' market, or produce aisle- "Hey, let's get this...
Hi, all:
I haven't signed in for a long while; there has been a lot on my plate recently. Now things are beginning to subside a bit; and I read with interest the poll that's up today.
It gave me food for thought. I certainly love our chickens, but it got me thinking specifically about...
I'm sorry to hear about your favorite "hens" being boys. Torey and I are expecting a similar letdown in a couple months.... our one-week-old babies are straight run.
Try to find them a good home, and hang in there.

Chickensbythesea posted some excellent advice. We lost our thermometer on day 4 with our chicks, but never needed it. We gave them plenty of room in the brooder and set the lamp about a foot up. The chicks let us know if they were warm or cold by either clustering right under the lamp or...
This is our second batch of chicks, and we've had good luck starting them on paper towels over pine shavings. We give them as much floor space as possible. The towels were changed daily until day three, then removed.
Once the splay leg danger is over and they realize shavings aren't good...
My chickens and chicks continue to amaze me.
Four of our little ones have developed "pasty butt", probably from the heat.
So they had to be caught, the "cement" removed from their backsides, and they had antibiotic ointment applied to their little rears to forestall irritation and...
Your birds are gorgeous!!
If memory serves, an Easter Egger has Araucana genes that contribute the coloring of the shells, and they can have most any other bloodline as well. Not sure if they breed true or if they need to be cross bred each time.
