    Try rubbing the diatomaceous earth into the chickens feathers by hand. I got a chicken with really bad mites and I rubbed it on him and they disappeared very quickly.     I don't know that they are less hardy than other marans. My copper maran is strong and healthy despite my other roosters and my hens picking on him, but my birchen has a hard time with even the younger chicks.

    Whatever color egg the roo came out of is about the color the chicks will lay. If you have a americauna roo with brown egg laying hens you will get green.

    Need incubator or broody hen asap!

    Last night my dad figured out a way for a old broken incubator to work! He attached something to make it heat and attached a lamp to that so we know when it is runnig! Thank you! ..... Gosh, I love those things!!
