The Battle Over The Chicken Shed: Me vs. the Mice

Also I wanted to add that peanut butter is the best bait I've found. The nice have to lick it, not just grab and run.

The Battle Over The Chicken Shed: Me vs. the Mice

Can you leave a cat in the shed with some feed to lure in the mice?

MY CHICKENS ARE PLUCKING THEMSELVES TO DEATH

Good point, in my head the OP was just throwing a handful of kitten food out as treats beside the regular feed.

MY CHICKENS ARE PLUCKING THEMSELVES TO DEATH

Have you tried kitten food? High in protein, dry, no smell, easy to feed. I would feed every day until molt is over.

Nice cool and run but no instruction. No talk of cleaning, ventilation or egg gathering.

Review by 'Purple_grape84' in article 'Why O Why Coop Construction'

Good article. Thank you for all the pics. I like that the run was included in the design. Good that you used a wire skirt all the way around. I like the large side door for clean-out. I like the storage underneath. There is no ventilation mentioned. The windows maybe should have been covered...

Comment by 'Purple_grape84' in article 'Dingleberrys Chicken Coop'

I like the use of vertical space, the girls probably love the roosting in the rafters. Seems like an awkward door to clean out of. Excellent access to the nesting boxes. Seems too large to reach all corners. Sometimes you need to catch a sick chicken, therefore a chicken keeper needs to...

    Feed Bag Repurposing!

I don't know about gifts, but my pens are made out pallets and I staple the bags to the outside to cut wind.

Best humane way to cull my chicken?

Take its head off as quick as possible or let it bleed out. The cervical dislocation can be difficult if you don't commit. I tried this and the bird started kicking again 5 mins later. I don't want to be dramatic, but cutting the throat or beheading are for sure.

Best humane way to cull my chicken?

My husband thought so too, you will miss. Now we use a shovel and a quick step down. Or use an axe. Hold the body and head stretched out over a chopping block. Keep hands clear, use a rope for the head.

    Silky sexing 6 months.

It's so much easier when there are others for comparison, but this is our only silky.

    Silky sexing 6 months.

Thanks, do you mean streamers around the tail? I know what to look for in non- silky. It's the small comb that keeps making me second guessing.

    Silky sexing 6 months.

I'm a little embarrassed, but I keep going back and forth on this babe. Probably about 6 months old. Haven't heard any crowing, makes little talking noises to itself . Thanks for your help.

    3 month old geese updates!

Your daughter needs to stand up to the house on his level, with you there. Hiss back at him wave her hands in the air, show him his intimidation tricks won't work on her. Or rehome because he will be worse in mating season. And you have to many ganders for a balanced flock.
