    Flock weight loss

They have 24 hour access to food and water. Are temps were single digits so there was heat lamp light on all night to keep the water from freezing but it doesn’t warm them or at least not much. I had to add a fish tank heater to the water as well to keep the water outlet from freezing.

    Flock weight loss

They have not been free ranging due to cold and snow. Their yard is pretty barren when there is no snow. I still feed their old food with the kalmbach. I only look at the protein and it is the same. There are no rodents eating their food. There is no food on the ground under the feeder. I ran...

    Flock weight loss

My hens are 7 months old. I started mixing their layer feed with kalmback henhouse reserve 17% feed trying to put some weight on them. They love the kalmback henhouse reserve feed but they have now lost weight and eating twice as much. They are still active although they are not going outside...

There were some altercations and lots comb grabbing. Then she went for a dust bath, as I figured she would. So she came in and had a bath and...

    Animal attack

Update: 2 weeks and 2 days!! She’s acting normal and clicking away. She actually acts like she’s going to start laying eggs soon now. Her wound looks the same to me. I need to wash her later as she tried to take a dust bath in the aspen litter. Good grief. The litter stuck to her wound. I am...

    Animal attack

First night my neighbor who raises chickens suggested the blue-kote. I began the triple antibiotic ointment the next day. I tried silvex last night but it dried out quickly. I have a silver/manuka honey spray coming today to try that. I am also going to start an oral antibiotic (It’s easier to...

    Animal attack

Washed the wound tonight and trimmed the feathers from the edges and the dried flap off. Washed with soap and water, rinsed well with water then rinsed with saline. Applied triple antibiotic ointment in the tooth tracks and applied silvex to the rest of the area. She wants to pick at it badly so...

    Animal attack

The air is less often now. I did put a saddle apron on her as she was beginning to groom her wound. I wish was warmer outside so she could at least be outside a little bit.

    Animal attack

Well we’ve made it 144 hours now and she’s still alive, eating, drinking, pooping, and clucking.
