Get yourself a neti pot. Nasal irrigation (a lot better than it sounds!) You use a saline solution (that you make) and the pot does a better job of getting high up into the sinus cavities than the spray.
Well we finally did it, and I have to say I don't think it went well.
Started out ok, soaked the foot and big scab there. Had a small scalpel from the vet. cut around the scab and popped it off. I don't think I went far enough outside of the scab, I just went around the margins. Anyway...
Unfortunately this is an area that we have a lot of experience in! :( I wouln't use the hydrogen peroxide except for the first time. It is too strong for continued use, it will destroy the new tissue starting to form. Iodine diluted with distilled water to the color of iced tea is good. I...
Thank you SO MUCH! I think this is it! I remember that at the end of one of the threads I read said that she was sorry she didn't get the last pic but someone came to the door. That made me laugh, thinking of someone coming to the door in the middle of a bumblefoot surgery. But this is a...
A long time ago, when I didn't need it yet I read a great thread on bumblefoot. The poster had given specific directions with step by step photos. I desperately need this as I have a buff orp that has suddenly gotten very bad. This link really sounds like it but I can't access it. Can anyone...
Oh no! Can you isolate her so she can rest her leg? Nobbie is putting her foot down very very very rarely and definitely not yet putting any real weight on it. I put 5 crushed aspirin in a gallon of water and began giving her that for her water this am. I figure if there is inflammation it...
I know this is a shot in the dark, but I am in Iowa and have been planning to buy dorkings from Duane Urch this year to begin our dorking flock. Unfortunately he is not offerring them this year. Can anyone give me a shortlist of established dorking breeders? I know this secret is closely...
Thanks for the info. I know she does not have bumblefoot and did not notice anything amiss with her nails but will check. Have you (or anyone else) ever had a chicken with a sprained/twisted leg that recovered? Or didn't? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Anne
I discovered our 2 year old Black Australorp limping badly on Friday. She was unable to put any weight on her leg. When she held it up it trembled. I isolated her in a broody cage. Gave her some egg and sunflower seeds hoping that it was a minor problem. She is pooping, laying and eating...
Hello Fellow Iowans!
I am in Brooklyn, half way between Des Moines and Iowa City. I would like to order chicks from Duane Urch this year. He is well known for his very high (show) quality chickens. The minimum order is 25 and I am looking to share the order with someone. I had planned...
Welcome!!! My family is from the Amana Colonies! My grandmother's house has the Kitchen Museum in Middle. Which colony are you in? I found your post when I was looking for the Iowa thread. I am planning on ordering chicks from Duane Urch of Minnesota. He is known for his show quality...
Oh how I hear ya! Love Harry Potter but never thought of it in terms of my family. My, how it fits! Just don't let her kiss you! I get it, having compassion etc., but sometimes it is just not someone you can be around. period. You can intellectually understand that this behaviour is the...
