This is Flower (like the skunk)! We’re pretty sure he’s the accidental? boy of our new batch of chicks and we adore the goofy little mohawk he’s started sprouting! Since he’s an olive egger we think he’s a cream legbar mix. I might see if I can get some photos of his pals as well, because I...
hi all, our two pekins were eaten the other night - one completely missing and the other torn open and crunched up
we set up a game cam to try and get photos in case it came back and left the remaining carcass there, but unfortunately the cam was set a little too far away, so it didn't catch...
thanks for the advice! some dp traps have been ordered and will be set near the coop since that’s where it seems to be focusing 99% of its attention, and will be continued to be set even if they end up catching it just in case there are more
i mean it’s something that can climb and has grasping hands small enough to fit through the gaps in a catch em alive trap, which i can only assume would be a raccoon - my roommates have a game camera but have yet to set it up for reasons i do not know, i’d do it myself but i’m several states...
thank you! i will definitely suggest the hardware cloth and sardines/tuna, and i know we have some lawn staples that they can use to anchor the traps
this trap looks like it would be the best option, i will definitely let them know
i’d never ever want to trap a raccoon and then release it...
>>previous post for context<<
in short, all thirty of our birds were killed by something that got into our coop, except for one hen who managed to get away unscathed
a small update on that:
the fayoumi is doing great, a coworker hooked us up with some hens and the coop has been completely...
a nearby relative has a game cam and my roommate is going to set it up soon, i hope it’s not a mink because i know those are hard to keep out!
a coworker of mine has a couple of hens that she can’t keep because she’s moving, i might try and contact her about potentially adopting them but it...
thanks for all the advice guys! i’m definitely going to let my roommates know about the different types of bait and the dangling feathers since we’ve got no shortage of them now, hopefully they’ll be able to rig a trap that isn’t sitting on the ground because catching a skunk instead sounds...
yeah i guess it’s just a lot to process atm, the idea of getting more hurts but they’re such wonderful creatures
i dunno, we’ll figure something out
im torn on what it could have been
ive been staring at this for so long and not actually writing much of anything but my roommate is getting a game...
they’re going to put one of these horizontally up against the kennel so hopefully that helps ;; i’m not sure if the stuffed animal chicken will fool her but they’re going to try that too! thanks for the suggestions, ideally i’d like for her to have more friends but it’s almost winter in upstate...
actually, an update: the java passed, maybe from shock/stress? or some kind of internal injury... the fayoumi is all alone now, and she was already incredibly flighty and unfriendly before this all happened, i hope she’ll be ok since she seems unharmed but i just
don’t know ugh
