The top one looks like my pullet ~ smaller comb (like almost none) and wattles. the bottom one does not. Looks to be developing a larger comb and wattles. He'll probably develop more feathering too.
Very difficult to tell in this picture and at this stage. You can try taking hold of the tail feathers and a duck with produce a loud quack. The drake will begin to darken around the bill with greenish feathers starting at the base of the bill. And the drake doesn't have the laced feathers like...
Mine are pretty hardy. I haven't needed to do anything special. And mine are excellent layers. They lay 7 days/week and have been since mid winter.
Right now they are out-laying my chickens.
Of all my hens I think my Plymouth Rock is the prettiest. I may show her this fall. But I would like to breed a rare breed here and I can;t decide which. Maybe when I go to a show I'll find something.
Hi there,
I am looking to start breeding a heritage stock. Im in Canada. What stock would be best here? I'd like to breed something that is needing attention ... as in a rare stock.
Any ideas or tips on where to look for good stock?
Thanks
Any advice?
I'm looking to begin raising a rare breed. Not sure which one yet. But I'd like some suggestions on how to begin, where to look for my stock.
I'm thinking of Chantecler since I'm in Canada, but I'm not sure?
Any tips/suggestions?
No ... they are not Australorps. Don't know what I was thinking. I don't even know what they are ...Ameraucanas I think.
Aaaanyways, the thing is we have a problem here.
See, ever since Philip my drake was hit by a car in the spring this year ...
Well ... he's kinda ... protective...
