We had 4 trying to hatch 1 was malpositioned and didn't manage to pip so I could help it and another one was doing so well and I was literally waiting a few more hours before intervening and helping zip and when I went back to check and turned and covered its air hole 😪 was so gutted I didn't...
Update: the second one managed to finish off and get out of his egg. The first born keep sitting on the smaller one and pecking it is this normal behaviour like grooming for ducklings or is she being a bully, it's pretty much dry is keeping them in the incubator 24 hours necessary once they're...
They've been a complicated set these is that duck eggs in general or because they were shipped eggs is there anything I can do differently in future?? Thank you for your help xx
I managed to free his head from under his foot without taking anymore membrane you can see some veins still in there so he can rest and absorb noe there doesn't look to be much in the egg xx
I've attached a pic then I've tried to remove the egg round his foot and head there's some very tiny veins so I've put him back in is there a way to free his head easily from this position I don't want to hurt him
I managed to free his foot a little bit so it wasn't squahing its face and it seemed alot happier once I did that then he's been back in incubator for about an hour now im going to go have a look see if I can get his head free will let you know how he's doing.
Thanks hun there way really...
HELP Update: we lost the malpositioned one its beak was to the opposite side to air cell and it didn't manage to bruise let alone pip 😢
But one duckling has hatched the other is nearly there but got his foot above his head I started to assist but there's some tiny blood vessels still and one...
No it had made about 3 more knocks along from the pip so I opened both up to over their beaks to not risk another blocking its self. The one that hadn't piped itself was further over than the safety hole so can see his veins alot more when I oiled the membrane, the malpositioned one still has...
they're both cheeping away but still doing chewing motions and have visible veins I put some coconut oil on the membrane it looked good before though no discolouring and paper like I'll get pics now and yes I've open him further and I think it's its neck I'm looking at and can't see his beak at...
Looking at the malpositioned one compared to the one that's passed I'm sure it's positioned just off of the air cell at the bigger end so will have to straight externally pip but there's no bruising to help be certain it's definatly still trying though
Update I stayed up as one was zipping the other 2 still not piped but going strong so was giving them a little longer as still visible veins, I fell asleep at 4 am just woke up 6am and checked and one of the non pipped ones had moved and covered its safety hole and died I feel so guilty if I'd...
There's some very thin blood vessels but I only made the hole a tiny bit bigger so I could shine the torch in a little the air cell is very shallow along the edge so hard to see much
Right guys I've opened him up abit more where i thought he'd piped put abit of coconut oil on membrane he's pushing where the hole is but the membran is very close to the shell wheres he seems to be pushing but looks through into aircell on pics looks to be hardly any room when opened and looks...
