Thanks all for the advice. It may be hard to reach a vet on Saturday but I'm going to try calling around tomorrow.
About the sun - the front of the cage does get some direct sun during the day, but the back of the cage is shaded. Also - the direct sun hits all four cages, not just the ones where...
So, trying to answer all the questions - I also would be surprised if it was a problem with the feed, as my quail in the other three layers have been fine. Haven't tried to open up the dead birds to see what was wrong - I have one now.
The top cage - white birds - two are actually from the same...
Maybe two months or so - it's strange, there were fine until just the last couple of weeks. This is Wynola Ranch cage, I don't have a photo but each level is about 2x3 feet, PVC covered hardware cloth for the floor, solid metal and wire walls. I keep the garage doors open during the day when I'm...
I keep my quail in my garage in stacked cage, with quail in four layers of the cage currently. Over the past two weeks I've had four quail mysteriously die, and all from the same cage out of the four. Zero deaths in the other three cages. I can't figure it out. It's not the lowest layer, which...
Hi, I have five Khaki Campbell ducklings that are a few weeks old now. I hatched them, and similar to my experience with quail, hatching them yourself seems to have no effect as to making them tamer around you. I have three larger ones that are more tame, they'll more or less let me touch them...
Thanks. The two that pipped then died seemed to be fine then were just dead. Like it wasn't an excessive amount of time or anything between stages of hatching. The second one, in particular, it had broken through the shell and was peeping when I woke up then it just became silent and wasn't...
Hi - So I finally ended the hatch, it's been over 32 days. I had 5 live hatches out of 15 eggs. Two externally pipped and made a nickel / cm and half or so size hole in the egg, were cheeping, then died for no apparent reason. Never opened the incubator and there were no signs of shrink...
Hi all - I bought 15 Khaki Campbell hatching eggs and had 5 hatch over the past two days. Of the remaining eggs, one started hatching, it broke through the shell, then died. After waiting a day I opened up the egg and saw it was fully formed but the egg sac was enormous and it looked like it...
Thanks. I took the rubber band off after about a day, his legs were no longer splayed but he still couldn't stand up or walk. After a couple more days he now pedals his legs if he's flopped down and can hop up and walk around. He seems to be making a lot of progress.
Hi all - I had a group of quail hatch Tuesday night and into Wednesday, one had pretty bad splayed legs, like in completely opposite directions from one another. From what I read, I used a small piece of rubber band to help keep them together as treatment, but so far there's no progress...
Hi - I have some hatching eggs coming and want to build a fence to "protect" my driveway from the ducks once they're out of the brooder - I had ducks before and kept them in a pen at night, but free ranged them during the day, and plan to do the same. I was thinking a foot and a half would be...
Yeah, I have 18 Egyptian Jumbos in a brooder right now, and I'm going to try separating out any additional males as soon as they come out of the brooder. Same with any I purchase, to do it right away. What surprises me is that it's mostly females that were attacked, I thought it was mostly...
In the cage right now I have two males and six females, which I know is still a little high, but everyone seems to be getting along. Originally it was three males (I thought, actually it was four) and the rest females, though I didn't think at 3-4 weeks having some additional males could cause...
