    Ringneck Pheasant Chicks

How many chicks do you have and how big of an area are they in? Cannibalism would be my first thought as well. Depending on the size of their pen some things you do to curb the cannibalism are try to keep it as dark as you can in their pen, use red heat lamp instead of white, hang a head of...

    Ringneck Pheasants

Rob, I have been reading a lot on this subject. I am raising around 100 this year to release as well. There seems to be 3 main beliefs in the timing of release. Not sure which is the best but I will list each with what I have read are the advantages. 8 weeks old - Main benefits are that the...

Well the birds are still doing very well. I opened the brooder a little over a week ago to give them access to the flight pen. They have access to both now the flight pen and the brooder building. They stay outside most of the time but will come inside at times.

OK. I have a question for the experts. From all the reading I have done there seems to be a wide range of when to let the birds out in the outside pen. My Brooder is attached to the flight pen with a door that goes directly into the pen. The birds are just over 3 weeks old now. When should I...

    New to Pheasants

Finished up the flight pen yesterday. It was a nice day out so I opened the Brooder to let them check out what outside was like. They were very hesitant but eventually some of them went out and explored the pen. I left them out for an hour or so then put them all away. Looks like the weather is...

    New to Pheasants

Birds continue to be doing well. I removed all the cardboard from the corners to give them a little more space. I also added so roost in various places. They are flying pretty well. I have had 2 get out when I had the door open getting the waterers to clean up and fill. I was able to catch them...

I purchased them from a hatchery here in Ohio. The one I went to does not ship chicks. I went to them and picked them up. Where are you located?

    New to Pheasants

Latest update. The pheasants seem to all be doing well. They are about 10 days old now. I removed the sheet from the brooder so they are now on straw. They are growing well. They have almost all of their wing feathers. They are eating well and drinking well. We have had a little challenge...

Thank you! They are getting very fast. Very fun to watch them running around and flapping their wings. It is amazing how young they are when they start preparing for flight. The brooder is 8'x8' with the roof being approximately 8' high. They have run of the whole thing minus the corners as I...

    New to Pheasants

Ok. Have a couple questions I am not sure about. What age should I start giving Grit? How long should I keep the straw covered? I currently have it covered by a sheet but cannot remember when I can remove it and have them just on the straw base. I was thinking it was 1 week but want to be...

    New to Pheasants

Definitely going to have to make a few changes to the brooder. I thought I had planned for anything. As usual actual experience is a lot different than reading and research. LOL. Next up for the brooder is insulation and sheeting in the interior walls. I will also sheet the ceiling. I think this...

    New to Pheasants

Temp has been stable at 96 degrees for the past few hours. I am sure I will have to adjust lights tomorrow as it will warm up outside some. I am sure it will be a chore for the next few days to make sure it is good. Just part of having a separate brooder from the house I guess.

Last light adjustment did the job. Temp is 96. I will watch it over the next few hours to make sure it stays there.
