Prolapse? Won’t stay in and looks strange

The more eggs they lay just the more chances they will have reproductive issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will. Hopefully your khaki continues being healthy. Personally, I won't be getting Welshies again in the future. They are not as smart as the other breeds, which for free...

Prolapse? Won’t stay in and looks strange

You have definitely the best you can for her. Most of the health issues I have with my ducks tends to be the same ones over and over again. Welshies, runners, Pekin, and khaki Campbells have had the most issues for me. They lay more eggs, so more issues. You can try tube feeding her if you...

Prolapse? Won’t stay in and looks strange

Sorry she isn't doing well. That tissue doesn't look necrotic to me, but it isn't healthy. It is prolapsed tissue. I would likely guess she got a bad bacterial infection. She was pretty badly scabbed up that, I wouldn't be surprised if she got sepsis and it spread to the rest of her body...

    Little hole in webbing

Even in the summer when it is 100+ degrees out, their feet won't feel warm. If their feet feel warm, that is actually a sign that there is some injury or infection. I am sure they appreciate the foot pampering, but they don't need it 😄. Moisture is the big worry for frostbite, because even at...

    Little hole in webbing

I can't say if the hole has any effect. However, this is not true. Ducks have a specialized circulatory system, called counter-current circulation, in their legs that helps keep them warm in the winter. As warm blood is pumped through arteries in the legs, it passes right by the cold blood...

Help Muscovy ducks attacking mum and young ones!

Drakes are always a mixed bag. My muscovy drakes get along pretty well each, but even they fight during the breeding season. I separate mine at night, but other people will completely separate their drakes during the breeding season. With so few females, I wouldn't be surprised if you start to...

    Call duck breeding

There is no way to tell till you breed them. White is a recessive gene color. With two copies of the gene, it will hide any other colors in their genetic makeup. So when bred to non-white ducks, these hidden colors will be expressed. They will only produce white offspring if the hen is white or...

    Drakes not getting along

Yeah that can be a challenge. If they don't get a long when they are separated, that is not a good sign for the future. I personally separate out my drakes during the mating season so the females get a break. And then I usually cycle them out, so I don't have them all out at the same time.

    Drakes not getting along

Do they get along when they are separated from the females? A few of my boys will fight over females, but separate them all out and they get along just fine.

    ducklings are weird

The two ducklings also look like very different breeds. One looks like Saxony, which is a very large breed, or a buff. The other one could be a fawn and white runner, which is one of the smallest breeds. So you would expect them to be very different sizes as they grow up. I agree with...

Prolapse? Won’t stay in and looks strange

That is essentially a scab. I am not entirely sure what causes it. My duck had that when she had vent gleet. She had some hard egg skins come out that cute her up. She had extra complications too because she couldn't move very well from a leg injury, so she was getting some acid burns there.

Prolapse? Won’t stay in and looks strange

She might have slight relapses. Not all prolapses stay in. When my girl had a small one, it took about a month to fully heal. And I had to put the prolapse in 3-4 times a day. Every time she pooped it would come back out. She also had a small calcified cyst that was causing the prolapse. Even my...

    Ducks fighting for no reason?

This time of year my ducks normally bicker and try to re-establish who is the top duck. Some females can be really bad this time of the year. Even my sweetest girls can become rather mean to other girls. It usually works it self out by the time they start laying again. I have a much bigger...
