Chickadoodle Heights
A year ago my partner and I moved to our new dream home in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. When viewing the house one of the first things I saw was the garden and I fell in love! It also had bedrooms etc. but really the garden was what sold it :) So having moved in...
I don't know if this a silly question, but should my chicken's ears turn blue?
Sorry if this is normal, but I'm still a newbie! She's a Light Sussex bantam, about 5 months old and otherwise happy and healthy. I've had a close look and it's not something blue on the surface on the skin...
Wow, this is really cool! I have two Partridge Wyndotte bantams, which are my very first chickens. Very beautiful and no problems so far. Not many people seem to know the breed, although they were recommended as a good starter chicken...
I can kind of see what your sister was saying - his head looks quite broad for a JRT compared to his body. But then again, JRT is quite a varied breed so could be a normal variation.
My dog Jimmy is supposedly 'pure' JRT, but I think someone was telling pork-pies...
They are wonderfully...
I'm new to chicken-keeping but have found they really like Swiss Chard, which keeps growing right through a British winter. We eat a lot of it ourselves, but there's still plenty for the chickens. I also found they liked cucumber and courgette (zuchinni), which are easy to grow.
My garden is really badly sloped so I built mine on legs. I sunk some tall fence posts and built the coop off the ground. The run isn't level, but it works and looks OK once I painted it up. A slope isn't all bad news, I don't suffer too bad with water puddling in the coop.
