    Red mite infestation!

Exzolt has worked really really well so far for me. I too am pregnant but am more paranoid about bug infestations than the actual cleaning lol. I have been dusting the perch with permethrin and putting it in the dusting pits for a while. I even used petrol on the coop to try kill everything. I...

    Exzolt question!

I have just used it on my flock (first dose). Needs to be repeated at 7 days. It has been 5 days since I put it in their water and have been checking the perch for dead mites. Finally found a good pile of dead ones today. I did spring clean the coop just the day before putting it in the water. I...

Official BYC Poll: What do you do with your roosters?

Sounds like you came over at the right time! When the borders reopen.... in like 10 years :barnie.... you will have to go to the South Island, that is where the beauty is:)

Official BYC Poll: What do you do with your roosters?

My partner built and designed this. Originally he would put himself to bed. But then he decided he mostly wanted to sleep with the girls, so we would have to put him in it. It is technically separate to the coop, they are free range so the whole paddock is the run.

    What is he?

I live in New Zealand and we are very limited to the breeds of chickens we can get. The breeder said we haven’t been able to import any new breed since the 80s. I imagine because of that, there are probably few true true pure breeds still here. She does breed leghorns and on her site it said she...

    What is he?

Thank you! He does fit that description perfectly. Do you know how big they get compared to a Barred Rock? He has a great personality so far, but what is the temperament of a leghorn rooster?

    What is he?

I googled pictures of a black sex link and he does look similar, except the white ears

    What is he?

I was sold this beautiful boy as a purebred Barred Rock chick, he is 4 months old now and just doesn’t look the same as other Barred Rocks on the internet. After a lot of internet searching my suspicion is he is a Leghorn. What does everyone think?

Official BYC Poll: What do you do with your roosters?

I chose other because we built a custom “cock box” for our rooster. It is only the early morning crowing that was an issue, the fully insulated box solved this. I would let him out at about 8am. Do wish there was a now crow rooster breed

@Jetblack2004 thank you so much for your help with these babies. Unfortunately you are confirming my thoughts :hit But it’s ok, I have a home for all my boys.. I just quite liked them. Do you mind having a look at the last two? The frizzle is 6weeks and the BLW is 7 weeks

    Sick chicken.

Good on you for trying to save her! Keep persevering. Something similar happened to my hen, she was fine then disappeared. I found her under a wood pile and thought she was broody, I gave her food and water but she didn’t eat much. After a week or so I realised she wasn’t sitting on eggs at all...

Made a chicken picnic table for the girls today.

I have seen these on the internet, so so cool! But I wonder how practical they are? Do you keep it undercover from the elements and sparrows?

Are these 7 week old chicks boys ??

Thanks for replying. I’m quite gutted. I already have a lovely Frizzle rooster. He is a rescue and so well behaved so I think I’ll have to rehome these beautiful boys :hit
