    scrambled eggs for chickens?

I frequently scramble up an egg and give to my chickens especially if it is cracked but what if I scramble eggs with milk, cheese, salt, and pepper added for the family.....can I give them the leftovers that no one eats even with the salt and pepper in it? Thanks

Ways to tell if male or female?

I'm so excited. I'm going to buy 4-6 weeks Olive Egger and Copper Maran chicks tomorrow but the owner is not sure if they are male or female. Is there a way to tell? I really don't want or need any roosters at this time so I'll be taking a risk buying them. Does anyone know if there are any...

Sandpaper eggs 2 days in a row...

Wow! what a neat thread Aart! I really enjoyed looking at all the weird eggs. It makes me feel better that you have had eggs like this and it goes away. I have my third weird egg in a row today (picture attached). I really wish it was one of my other pullet's eggs but I have still been...

Sandpaper eggs 2 days in a row...

I got another sandpaper egg this morning from her that was even lighter colored than yesterday almost no pigment at all and it was rough feeling like yesterday's egg too. Today it was somewhat flattened on one side and had wrinkles in it too. So now I'm worried this is an on-going thing. I...

Sandpaper eggs 2 days in a row...

Its almost as if it's covered in a light colored powder that won't come off. The shell doesn't seem any thinner than the others just different texture. I wonder if this has anything to do with calcium?

Sandpaper eggs 2 days in a row...

My golden sex-link (4 1/2 months old) hen has been laying for a couple of weeks now. Today makes her tenth egg. She has laid for me every day since she started except for two days, including yesterday. Today her egg looks and feels way different than all the other eggs she has laid. It is...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

A friend asked me if I was going to get a rooster along with my hens. I told her no because I didn't want baby chicks at the time, just eggs, and she asked the usual about whether hens can lay eggs without roosters so I proceeded to tell her the difference was that if a hen mates with a rooster...

Bullying or normal pecking order behavior...I'm worried.

Good idea ECBW! I should have just put them in at night, I would have never thought of that as I just put them in there immediately when I got them in the afternoon. I'm just puzzled because I watched them for a while after first introducing them to each other and it seemed to go well, they...

Bullying or normal pecking order behavior...I'm worried.

Thanks Judy! I've never even heard of a chicken saddle - maybe I can make my own... Even though I've seen feathers pulled from her back and tail, as you can see in the picture, she does not have a bald spot on her back but I notice when I picked her up, a lot of feathers missing from her chest...

Bullying or normal pecking order behavior...I'm worried.

I just adopted two new chickens the day before yesterday from a lady who is going out of the egg selling business after losing two of my hens on Sunday after our new neighbor's dogs tore into our pen and got them. We had three chickens and I got first eggs from two of them on that day before...
