Are chicks are all doing really well and off to their new homes today. I was really surprised at the demand for chicks right now. Within 20 minutes of posting them for sale I had three different buyers!
When they were younger. The white chicks are a mix of BR roo and RIR hen. The white chicks...
Two are out and five external pipped! This is a special hatch as it's the first time I've had more than two external pip and my daughter turned 18 today!
I've got a baby chirping in the incubator
I think they are going to hatch over several days since I lost power for those 18 hours and several of them at lock down were behind the others. Day 21 is today!
We lost power last night (PNW storm with wind gusts up to 80) and had trees knocked down all over. We didn't get power back until 18 hours later. Incubator was down to 57 all I could do is wrap the incubator in towels and hope it didn't drop any further. Had 11 eggs with moving chicks before...
After the loss of the 21 eggs that I had in the incubator I'm going to set 21 more on Friday. Day 21 will be Dec 19th which is my DD's birthday. I thought about doing the New Year hatch-a-long but thought it would be neat to have them hatch on her birthday. She is our animal guru and loves...
DD (darlin' daughter) is 18 but has several challenges. She had brain surgery last summer for Chiari Malformation Type 1. She also has Classic and Complex (mimics stroke symptoms) migraines and the medication to treat that causes brain fog and memory issues (just two things that she deals with)...
All 21 of the eggs I set got fried. My DD attempted to adjust the temp (instead of covering/uncovering the windows) and the temp was up to 110!!! I opened a couple of them and all of them were at day 7 development, which is where they should have been
We went from being in the 20's during the...
They were compared to Cornish X's when it was explained to me. They grow so fast that they often will die of a heart attack or have problems with their legs because of the weight. Ours didn't grow as fast because we made them forage for their food by throwing it all over the yard. They didn't...
Mine are BBW (Board Breasted Whites) from the local feed store back in March. I was told they are not meant to be kept. They are meat birds. If it is a male and you keep it be careful because they can and do go after roo's. I didn't know that and our three Tom's cornered and killed our bantam...
Looks like a turkey egg to me. My turkey hen laid eggs exactly like that when she first started to lay and they were the same size as a chicken egg, maybe a bit bigger.
