Have you heard of a chicken log? You get a log and let it sit in the same spot for a week - a few weeks and then roll it to a new spot. The chickens get to eat all of the bugs that have gathered underneath. If you locate it on grass and move it weekly it won't hurt the grass so much.

This link has a list of other uses for vinegar in and around the coop (adding it to water for the same reasons I said is number 1) but it goes on to list it as an effective egg wash, foot soak...
Vinegar has numerous health benefits, it can help boost immune systems, and in chicks and chickens helps stressed birds immune systems regain strength. You can use regular vinegar though apple cider vinegar is believed to have more health benefits than plain.
If you add it on a regular basis...
Scramble an egg and put that in the blend or food processor to make pieces tiny. Leave that out for the chick to eat, high protein but easy to digest. If it survives be sure to add a few drops of apple cider vinegar to the water when you leave it out for the chick. Keep your chick under...

See specifically breed information on eye color.
The eye color is a fault for sure, but certainly not a factor that can dismiss this bird as not a Jersey Giant. I have seen others that had eyes like these. I'm more...

How many feathers in the coop are normal? I have black jersey giants that are almost 9 months and I am seeing both tail feathers and the smaller under fluff all over the coop. No one is showing that they have lost anything. This is my first time with the breed and I wasn't sure if this is a mild...

It was a large fishing net and it tangled the birds in them. They were in danger of breaking a wing... and his technique was to chase corner net and then drag the net toward himself... heaven forbid he walked those few steps. The whole netting thing had nothing to do with humane...
Thank you I will try the chair in the coop and holding them before letting them out. It is certainly going to ruffle feathers...even in the coop the run from you. You have to corner them to pick them up an dI hate to terrify them like that. But maybe I'll win out over time and they'll learn to...
I have four black jersey giant hens that are seven months. I have had them for a month. Sadly the fella I got them from "had a farm background" and treated them like meat birds. I was horrified by his use of a net to "get them". Awful really. This leads me to the problem. I let them free range...
Winter is coming and your chooks are getting cold? The first thing I do to "winterize" the coop is eliminate drafts. Ventilation is good you don't want built up moisture. But you certainly don't want cold drafts. Cold drafts and moisture gives you a super recipe for frost-bite. So go ahead and...
