No not mites, I have 50 birds and none of them show signs of mites, also all other birds have nice bright red combs. She's had it since hatch, also she's 9 months old has been laying nicely for 3 months now. That's why I waited until now to see if she would grow out of it or if it would change...

Yes never done quail, have chickens,ducks,turkeys,geese,guineas but this will be a first for me. did it on whim saw them in the store and remembered seeing a post on here before about someone else doing it so i gave it shot just to see what would happen, didnt check to see if they were fertile...
So I saw someone who did this and had success. So at local little produce store I saw some quail eggs and decided to go ahead and buy them and throw them in the incubator for fun and games and sure enough their hatching!
Aslong as they get atleast 6-8 hours of dark they should be ok, little extra light will make them lay longer through the year, they need so many hours of daylight to tigger their body into laying mode. They should never be forced to live under continuous lighting, which harms their immune...
