How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

3 eggs from 4 hens! The only one not laying is not quite ready to lay! :-)

My 19 mos old RIR hens have quit laying

Do you have lights? Maybe it's a seasonal thing? I know the past ones haven't - but each bird is different. Also have you checked for fleas or ticks? Are they otherwise healthy (good coloured combs, shiny feathers, acting normally, etc)? How many aren't laying - is it just one or a bunch?

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

My first EE Egg! My first ever egg was laid just 3 weeks ago - but my EE is 10 months old and I was really starting to give up hope on her! LOL

9 Months Old - no eggs yet

Thanks for your comment! I had always heard they should lay by 7 months so when we approached 9 months I started to worry...but like I said, she is otherwise healthy. I'm relieved to know others have had a similiar experience. She is a beautiful hen, and I picked her because of that, so I am not...

9 Months Old - no eggs yet

Hi Everyone, I FINALLY got my first egg this weekend - from my 6 month old Barred Rock (a beautiful, large, solid brown egg - most eggciting thing ever!). BUT my 9 month old EE (born Feb 2 - so 43 weeks old this week) still hasn't laid and doesn't look like she is ready to. Her crown is not...

7 Month old EE not laying...

I have a 7 month old EE (she was born February) who STILL isn't laying. All of her siblings (they're still with the farmer I got her from) have been laying for a month to 6 weeks...but she is not. I've checked the coop inside and out and have found no hidden eggs (non of my pullets lay yet, so...

    Canadian Winters - insulate?

Sorry! I don't know how to delete the thread but I'll go back and see if I can find something I haven't already read that will help.

    Canadian Winters - insulate?

Hi everyone, I'm building a new coop for my four hens higher up off the ground and I'm wondering if I should be insulating? There will continue to be vents at the top of the coop for air flow but I'm in Canada and the winters can get real cold... I will use the deep litter method to hopefully...

Pullets STILL not laying...are they roosters??

Thanks everyone! I will stop worrying then and just let them be. When my barred rock Leia plumped up so much faster than my EE (the white one) Splash - I was worried there was something wrong but am glad to hear it's just normal.

Pullets STILL not laying...are they roosters??

Hi Everyone, I have four pullets who haven't laid yet. The white one is 6 months old, the barred rock is almost 5 months old and the two gold laced wyandottes are 15 weeks old. While I know they start laying at any time within this time frame - I can't believe that I still don't have an egg...

    Final Verdict??

Well...I rehomed "Harriet" about a 3 weeks ago because she was crowing and acting like a rooster. The guy I gave her to had chickens all his life and he confirmed she was, most likely, a Harry. Imagine my surprise when I got an email this morning letting me know Harry laid 3 eggs since Friday...

    water designs for winter??

I second this question! I have just regular old waterers - but I do have five chicken nipples, just haven't used them yet. I'm in Canada, so it's gets pretty darn cold in about 6-8 weeks and am hoping to a water heater.

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

I'm dying waiting.... 1 EE who should be ANY day now, but yet has shown me no pre-egg laying signs (no squatting or egg song), 1 barred rock who should be within the next couple weeks, and two gold laced wyandottes that are still a couple weeks out. Will getting eggs always be this exciting??
