Thank you azygous and eggcessive! I had treated for mites a month or so ago. I mean, I treated the heck out of everything for mites but those little suckers seemed to have come back. Again I appreciate the help!
The top picture is a shot of the top of the knee. The red areas seem to pain him (and the accompanied limp) which doesn't fit the virility angle to me. Though some of the redness could be just that.
Hi,
I noticed my rooster started limping three days ago. I thought bumble foot at first but when I was finally able to catch him I noticed just how raw and red his flesh is. No scabbing or open wounds but the redness/rawness is kind of alarming. I soaked his legs in an Epsom salt bath and he...
I've been keeping a close eye on her. After the soft shelled egg even more so. She's not straining or showing any of the normal "egg" behaviors like the other girls. I was looking into lash eggs but she's not showing signs of illness. She's always been an odd bird so I'm leaning more towards dud.
I have eleven hens currently. Out of the eleven ten are laying like champs. I get a minimum of six eggs and a max of ten eggs a day(even in this gross weather). My gray Orpington, I believe, is a dud. She laid one soft shelled egg about a month ago and hasn't laid since. She acts fine, eating...
My Turken finally started laying and her first few eggs looked just like that! I always know when a pullet starts laying by the little dwarf eggs I find in the nest boxes.
Will do! Once I get them in the brooder prepared for cuteness overload. I have eight mystery chicks included, so I'll need help figuring out what they are. I have a weakness for the surprise chick option... 8x over :D
I'm so excited for February! I have a BBS Ameraucana, BBS Andalusian, Speckled Sussex, Fayoumi, Russian Orloff, easter eggers, Ancona, and silver spangled hamburgs all on their way. I wasn't able to get my hands on any salmon faverolles this year but I'm crazy anticipatory over the Orloffs. I've...
Thank you! I had thought of that and even locked her up with another girl that was already trying to use a nest. Freckle ended up upsetting the other hen and put my rooster in a panic. This caused the whole flock to start sending out alarm calls, that riled up the geese and in turn set the dogs...
Hi all!
My barred rock Freckle finally started laying! Only problem is she does it across the street. I have five nesting boxes for 11 girls. Everyone else takes turns using the two favorite boxes but not, these boxes are not good enough for me, Freckle.
The area across the street is overgrown...
