Wow, I have been missing all the fun. I just found this thread.
I am lookin for some silkie hens to go with my newly acquired silkie too... Anyone want to part with two or some hatching eggs?
Yes I do. I can't find where I found it before. I would go with what you were told. If they were worried about limits they would make it easy to find right?!
There is a 10 chicken limit per acre in Monroe County... I am struggling to find the reference, but I had it at one time. I am not sure how enforced that is though

I would not use straw bedding that is freshly from the coop in a bed that i plan to plant this year. It is best to let the chicken poop compost before planting near it. I just made new beds this year and used fresh new straw. Now i would rec commend that you try to find straw that is not seeded...
I roto-till straw into the soil wherever i want to plant something. It helps keep it from becoming so compacted again... It usually lasts about 2 to 3 years before it needs worked again.

That would be a good question for your local CO (conservation officer). Some states have nuisance laws where an animal can be taken if it is causing harm, where other states strictly protect wildlife. Your states DNR website should have questions like this in its Q&A section.
Good luck with...

Does anyone have any good source of local feed in Southern Indiana (Bloomington area)? I hear a lot of people on here talk about purchasing feed for their chickens from a local feed mill, where does one look to find one of those?
thanks,
Nathan
