    we have one easter egger in our flock of 11 birds - all about 10 weeks old, all supposed to be ladies. my husband has heard our easter egger try to crow and his tail feathers are starting to look roosterish to be, particularly the larger plume going up in the back. thoughts?

    Chicks and Drowning Risk

    When is it safe to transition chicks to non-chick waterers. I have one regular waterer (no nipple attachment) I was thinking of putting out, but wondering if it's too early for my month-old chicks and there is still a risk of drowning.

    @ Farm wife - no, there is no adjustment. It's actually only warm right under it, so I don't believe it's too hot. I went out just now and raised it up a bit more, which will hopefully encourage them to sleep under it if they want.
