Just a FYI, my Cayugas are so loud that I can hear them inside my house. They are by far my loudest ducks. I have Mallards, Blue Swedish and a Pekin mix in addition to Cayugas.

    Self-Sustaining Meat Chickens?

Dang!! He is huge! Nice!! I totally agree with the pure white comment. There are too many we need more color! I'm not saying white is bad, one of my favorite ducks is a Pekin, she is beautiful and a sweetheart. <3 <3 Are you willing to ship chicks? I'm in Texas.

    Self-Sustaining Meat Chickens?

Thanks!! Size is a big factor since we will consume 1 whole chicken per meal. I will cook them in a wide variety of ways, fried, grilled, slow cooker, pressure cooker, stove top, oven, just about every way. I will have to try and see whether we are a before or after puberty. I plan on...

    Self-Sustaining Meat Chickens?

Thanks!! We eat one whole chicken per meal. Ideally, we would try to have chicken 3-4 days a week. At this point, I only want to sell eggs. My husband has 2 people lined up already and he hasn't built the coop yet nor we have gotten the chickens. Lol ;) Patience, dear husband, patience.

    Self-Sustaining Meat Chickens?

Thanks!! I just might have to do that, get multiple breeds for my meat birds. I already know I am going to have multiple layer breeds. I mean come on blue eggs, green eggs?! <3 ;)

    Self-Sustaining Meat Chickens?

Thanks!! Sounds like we have some stuff in common. ;) I will look into the French Black Copper Marans. I have to admit I am a bit spoiled on bird hardiness since at this point I have only had ducks so far. So far none have even been sick. (knock on wood) Thanks again!

Thanks! I'm in north Texas, I am in the planning stage in getting chickens. My husband is going to be building the coop very soon. Thanks again for your help.

    Self-Sustaining Meat Chickens?

Thanks! That does help. I guess I am looking into the broilers more but the dual purpose seems to be what would fit my needs? Do your Cornies lay eggs too? I have a husband and a teenage boy to feed and need a chicken that can keep up! Ha ha ha!

    Self-Sustaining Meat Chickens?

Are there meat chicken breeds that can be self-sustaining? I know Cornish X Rocks cannot if you want it true to breed. I don't want to rely on someone else all the time for my meat chickens, kinda defeats the self-sustaining thing. lol Thanks in advance!

Ducks stopped laying, less than a year old.

Thanks!!! We typically let them out between 8:00-9:00 am in hopes that they will lay their eggs in the coop. We have not had any luck since after getting the new ducks. Once I get my garden going next year I hope to encourage them to eat the bugs in the garden. There is a saying that says that...

Ducks stopped laying, less than a year old.

Thanks!! I tell ya, if they don't help out in some way it is going to be a bit harder to convince my husband that they are good to have on the farm. If they can't do eggs then maybe they can be bug control in the garden. ;)

Ducks stopped laying, less than a year old.

I have 6 month old ducks and they have stopped laying. I had a Blue Swedish lay almost everyday for about 10 days and then I introduced 4 female mallards and she stopped laying. It has been a month and still no eggs. My female Pekin never started to lay (in the coop at least) and the mallards...
