also, if we move 3 week old chicks outside to the coop for a brooder, is high 80's too hot for them during the day. It usually only drops to mid 70's -low 80's at night now. We do have shade...and the coop would be large enough for the 6 girls.
We are in Massachusetts, and currently there is a heat wave so we were thinking of moving them after the worst of this is over and it goes back into the 80's. We figured no heat would be necessary since it doesn't drop too low at night.

We have been talking about that today actually. They grow so fast and it seems like it would be much easier to control the temperature they need each week until we could remove the plate completely.
