How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

4-eggs today out of 9-hens. Have one on the nest as I write so there is still hope. Like everyone else we are coming out of the deep freeze and getting above 32-degrees. Have been averaging about 5-eggs for the last week. Sure, could use the other hens to pick up the slack, my demand is high.

    Nesting Boxes

I currently use artificial grass pads which I got from Amazon and supplement that with pine shavings from TSC. Our ladies have no objections. Best of luck in your search.

Fellow Floridian here also. As many of you, we Florida folks have lived through many hurricanes, having been born and raised in central Florida. We relocated to the upper part of South Carolina back in 1988 and this is our first year as chicken folks. We are scheduled to have rain and wind...

Newbie in need of chicken ID help!

Hello Rae0611, don't know about anyone else but the waiting is killing me. Has the inspector been out yet? and were you able to keep the 7th bird? In your situation you had to get your coop approved and inspected to meet an ordnance regulation?

    Moving chicks to coop

I'm ready to put 9 4-week-old chicks (mostly feathered not much down left) to the coop with a heat lamp at night. They have been spent last week about 6-7 hours a day in the coop with no heat, just food, water, perches and sand boxes. You are right it's a haul getting everything down to the...

No top on the pin, but I'm right there. This is my time for afternoon tea and cookies. Making the best of a good situation. This is what retirement is all about. Right?

    Starting with half or whole?

Coop is currently in work. Sometime in the fall (I think) I had planned to order my chicks. Was thinking about 15 mixed breed, egg layers, day old chicks. During a conversation with an "Old Time Chicken Farmer": he suggested to get half the flock and then at a point in the future get the other...
