My chickens are sick - lost feathers on breasts

I recently had a chicken who got sick and died. She started with a thinning tail but seemed fine. Then suddenly she lost the feathers on her breast, got very thin/weak and died. I now have two more who have lost the feathers on their breasts and have the thinning tails - they seem ok health...

best material to put in nesting boxes

Hi All, I'm fairly new to "chickens" and have six Black Australorp hens. I'm wondering what is the best material to put in the nesting boxes? Right now I have hay but would love your opinions. I have pine chips on the floor. Thanks!

To cut or not to cut produce

I read the post the other day about how they'd like a pumpkin - so got one and cut it in half. Boy, did they have fun with that! All that's left now is a very thin skin - all the seeds adn pulp is gone - they had a blast and it was so fun to watch them!

    Do chickens like parsley?

I tried parsley from my garden the other day (the guinea pigs love it) - but the chickens turned up their beaks and stomped all over it.

    how to identify my chickens

Many thanks to all of you for your warm welcomes and ideas for identification. I'm one of those people who just has to name my critters so I need to tell them apart to do that. I've had so much fun learning on this site already - sent the wonderful hubby out to get a pumpkin for the girls...

    how to identify my chickens

Hello, I live in PA and had two chickens who passed away. Yesterday I got 6 new Black Australorp hens (about 16 weeks old). My problem, they all look the same and I want to be able to tell one from another. Is there an easy way to identify them that won't hurt them?
