    Roosting

This one is long, the posts are about 8 to 9' long. Also, there's a lot of ventilation. (Mainly because it's older!) There's room, I honestly think they just still like to huddle. Maybe I just need to work on training them to stay out of the nests. I am planning on opening them up on Friday...

    Roosting

The roosts are good, I'm using a prefab house that the owner has in there. I don't know the height of the roosts. What bothers me is that they are fine to nap during the day but not at night. Feels like a choice, you know...humanizing my birds! They are ISA's and Americanas. I guess I'm just...

    Roosting

They are 16 weeks. Wooden ones in the coop. I've had chickens for years, I've never come across them still sleeping on the floor.

    Roosting

Hello...I've moved from Texas to Virginia and starting over with a new flock. My chickens still won't roost to sleep. They will nap during the day and preen on the roosts, but at night they still all huddle together on the ground. I'm two weeks out from opening up their nesting boxes and I'm...

Help! Our fertilized eggs aren't edible

i would venture to say it's not the heat. Something is up with the chickens. I went through this for about a week or so and then things came right. I never figured out what the heck was going on but it righted itself.

    Fowl Pox

Thank you. It's weird how when you've think you've seen the weridest thing with the chickens something else pops up. Last month I was treating a bumble that would not heal - I finally had to get after it and pull it hard and this quarter inch hard thing had developed inside. Crazy.

    Fowl Pox

Also, I forgot to mention there are no other symptoms. She's laying running around like normal.

    Fowl Pox

My guess is this is the pox, but I'm going to ask anyhow because it's presenting very differently than it has in the past. My girls get the black spots every once in a while and I just put MedRX in the water, and then they are all good. This girl literally overnight has two massive growths. I've...

    Brahmas and Texas Heat

Thank you. I don't think I will bring them in this year, I always feel so bad for the new birds and their first summer.

What is this? End of Comb pale or white and black

Thank you all for the comments. I was afraid it might be frost bite, but it's weird they showed signs almost two weeks after the super cold weather. I don't think the coop is damp at all, but I will go in and take notice just for that. You are the best!!

What is this? End of Comb pale or white and black

No, I wouldn't put a heater in. The house has good ventilation. Remember it's super hot here. Thank you for helping.

Ok. Will it right itself or is there something I should do?

    Brahmas and Texas Heat

Hello, I'm starting to look at the next round of chicks for my flock and wanted to get a couple of Brahmas. Honestly, I just think they are cool looking. However, we have extremes in weather. The description says they do well with cold weather, but what about extreme heat? I mean, we had almost...

What is this? End of Comb pale or white and black

Hello, I've just come home from a long trip and my leghorns have discoloring on their combs. It's either pale or it's pale going into black. In looking at the diseases, mine don't look like what I've seen...so don't really know what I'm looking at. I also thought maybe frostbite. We did have...
