My internet has been down so I wasn't able to check in. I originally put in 30 EE/BO cross, 28 made it to lockdown and 25 hatched! Will try to get a pic up later.
From what I understand a blood spot has nothing to do with fertility, it's a glitch in the egg laying process. I have no idea what happened with your latest hatch, but I can imagine how frustrating it must have been. Maybe if you can give some more details (what kind of incubator, what kind of...
I candled all 30 last night. 25 looked perfect for day 3 (veins starting to develop) 4 had darker shells so I have no idea what's going on and 1 had weird bubbles and no veins but I'll leave it until day 10. It's so exciting.

and good luck with your broody!
I set 30 EE/Buff Orp crosses from my flock on the 10th at 3:18 (with the rising full moon) and candled last night. 4 had shells to dark to tell, one looks like there are bubbles inside (no idea what that means!) and the other 25 have blood vessels...

My Mail Lady says she has some EEs that lay eggs so green that it's impossible to candle them. Should I get some???
Mine aren't that dark, more like a light turquoise. They are great hens and amazing layers. We had a terrible heat wave here this year and they didn't slow down one...
I've collected 25 eggs from my girls. Mostly Buff Orp/EE crosses but there should be a few straight BOs and a few straight EEs. Just waiting for 3:18 to put them in! So excited.
I put 25 eggs in the incubator. I had 1 clear egg on day 10 and 3 early quitters, then on day 18 I had 2 more that had died. During hatching I had 3 more internally pip and then die (not sure why) and 17 healthy chicks. The eggs were mostly EE/Buff Orp crosses with a few Buff Orps, all from my...
I'm in! The last 2 from my current batch have pipped and I should have enough time to get the incubator cleaned out and collect some eggs from my girls. Yay, more babies!
I just read this earlier today on Mother Earth News. I'm going to try it next week when I put my next batch in the incubator. If it works, great! If not, no big deal.
