It is Johnson's paste wax, a light coating on the smooth side. I first had the textured side up when they were less than a week old, now they are starting to fly and are MUCH larger and playing on everything. I am surprised how fast they grow.
The incline is pretty shallow so they won't skate...
We brought 10 chicks home a week ago and are using an EMH (Electronic Mother Hen) to keep the chicks warm and comfortable. I've seen others who's heater is covered in Poo and I thought I'd share how I keep mine as clean as brand new.
I cut a piece of 1/8" ABS plastic 14" x 14", big enough if...
I'm sure by now you've bought a dog. Congratulations, I hope the training is going well.
I've owned and bred Chessie's for 30+ years. This thread is the BEST and most honest description of a Chessie's temperment and intelligence that I've read on the Web.
Chessies are smart! Sometimes smarter...

Perspex.........Plexiglas on this side of the pond. Is more than strong enough to withstand the scratching of a critter trying to get in to the coop. 3/16" will be strong enough, 1/8" may flex too much. If you can find some that has a mirror coating on one side and place that on the...
A readily available electromagnet is the solenoid from an automatic sprinkler valve. Although it is 24V A/C. I made a Halloween prop that used a sprinkler valve, and a 12V A/C wall wart worked fine to activate the solenoid. YMMV.

I have used the X-10 controllers previously, I would not bet my chickens lives on it. Rather 'twitchy.
There are better solutions inside this thread.
OOps, spoke too soon, I thought it was controlled by the 120V / X-10 technology. My bad. Given that it is powered by a "wall wart" transformer...
If you are speaking in the Pavlovian sense, then yes, they can be trained with food / treats to come to a duck call.
I have had wild ducks circle my house (no water on property) when I called them with my Duck call. They talk frequently with each other in flight and to those on the ground. No...

This guy has a blog about his door design. He has lots of pics and very good descriptions of things as well as an electronic diagram for the motor operator. http://www.fabiens.org/ckblog/?page_id=106

Yep, I too posted that link in #228
building stuff that works is FUN!

Thanks Doopy!
I have not taken the time to learn HTML language, I'm more of a hardware side guy. Thank you for the correction to the syntax script, I hope a moderator is listening.
I have seen so many posts on this thread and others asking for a cheap automatic door opener, This one looks...
Todd,
The codes vary from one extreme to another across our country from state to state. Some allow separation by as little as 12" and buried only 18" deep. Others localities do not allow water and electrical lines in the same ditch, EVER! Many seem to prefer the trench to be 3' deep with a...
Glad to hear you won't install a permanent power line to the coop in the same ditch as the water line. Code violations galore unless you know what you are doing. Water and electricity are poor coopmates. I am a chicken noob, but I'm an experienced builder.
Good info on the height of the...
