Hi from Oregon!
Our Japanese Bantam (which appears to be what you have from the photo) lays about 4-5 eggs per week and they look exactly like yours. I suspect you are correct and this is the hen leaving you prizes. Our eggs are almost exactly 2" long and a little under 1-1/2" in diameter, so...
Actually we don't. They own us!!! They wandered into our backyard after escaping from a neighbors barn, I threw them some sunflower seeds, and they never left. Now I guess they have become almost all of the above, but mostly pets and eggs.

Just curious... How did you reassemble the egg so nicely after cracking into the skillet!?!
Only kidding. Congratulations and hope it continues.

I'm curious about the breed? We have Japanese Bantams that would always prefer to roost in trees if not enclosed. They also fly quite well. Since we have lots of predators in our area, we just decided to keep them penned.
Also, when I was growing up in SW Georgia, I was surrouded by chicken...
I have a Japanese Bantam who was exposed to roosters until about 3 months ago. Since then she has nested and raised a brood of nine chicks. She has just started laying again. Are these eggs likely to still be fertile? How long do eggs remain fertile after a rooster is removed from the hen...
O.K. We now know that our feral hen is a fairly well-bred Japanese Bantam. In doing a little research, what we see over and over is that they are excellent flyers. Duh!!! Like we didn't already know this! Is there anything, other than wing clipping or a totally enclosed run that will keep...
O.K. Thanks to all.
Guess we have a Japanese Bantam! The rooster was obviously not the same breed, so who knows what the chicks will look like?
Thanks,

Probably a dumb question from the Oregon newbies?
Do chickens sweat? Yesterday it hit 100 degrees and we took a fan out to get some air movement around our hen and chicks. They hated it. They all got as far away as possible and let us know their lack of appreciation. As soon as we turned...
The newbies from Oregon would like to know what our feral hen might be. We have looked at every photo of breeds, sub-varieties, etc. we can find but no match. We assume that this means we have some sort of hybride mutt? Huh?
Hen:
Size: small
Age: young (I would guess about 8-9 months)
Color...
Our feral hen (not really but that's another story) took up residency in our back yard a few months back. She had been around two roosters for at least a couple of months and promptly found a secluded nest spot on the ground, laid 11 eggs, and 9 chicks followed 20 days later. One chick met the...
Hi from Oregon's mid-valley. I retired several months ago and the same week, we had three feral (not really -- turns out they escaped from a new neighbor's barn) chickens show up in our backyard. I made the mistake of tossing some sunflower seed their way and they never left. We don't even...
