Helping Others During this Time of Covid 19 / Coronovirus 2020

I have a friend whose husband works in the local Hospital, with the shortage of masks, she broke out her sewing machine and has been making masks and caps for the medical staff. If anyone has the ability to use a sewing machine, this is a great way to help staff try and stay safe!

what are y'all saving from the wild to deal with coming crisis?

In Hawaii, chickens run loose and wild. They are eating something. I think chickens are super adaptable, if they free range, it will cost you less to feed. Although Ive been hearing of some folks raising crickets and making them into meal, even for human consumption :sick But for birds, it...

    Finally Pulled the Trigger

Grats! Although, from my experience with meat turds....I mean birds...well lets just say :sick They grow super fast and poop a LOT! Way more than regular chickens. They are not as mobile either due to the sheer speed they get fat. They get so fat, they can barely walk. One suggestion, to...

    I have mites.... Help!!!

Please remember, when using permethrin or pyrethrins, this product is TOXIC to CATS. If you have a barn cat, lock her out, and your clothing should be put in the wash and you should shower so as not to spread it indoors to your cat. Other than cats, the product is AWESOME for getting rid of...

You can use wood ash as a mite deterrent in their dust bath. If you think its mites, peek at the base of her feathers for clotted...

Ive also read that not all wormers are equal, some target some types of worm where others can target another, and that rotating worming medicine can help prevent worms from gaining a tolerance. Is it only her birds that are dying? Maybe try her on some yogurt. How does her poo look?

Just a shot in the dark here, but are they inbred? I had a batch of wellsummers I bought from someone, a mass breeder, last year. 4 were Wellsummer/EE cross and thrived, but the other 6 were pure wellsummer. The pure bred birds did not thrive and no matter what I did, they kept dropping off...

Review by 'Anonymous' in article 'The Egg song, it’s not about the egg; it’s an escort call.'

This certainly explains certain behaviors, however, Im curious as to why my girls still give the call while enclosed for the winter in a 12x9 coop with the rooster. Is it possible that my hens do not like my rooster? And if so, are they hoping to attract a different roo?

Its normal for a Roo to have a favorite girl or two. You can easily help your hens out by getting them a "saddle" to protect their backs or add more hens to give the hens a rest from their amorous protector ;) As he ages, he wont be as busy. My current boy, a sexy stud named Cogburn is two...
