My DIY automatic chicken POP door opener/closer

Found the answer on the tubing: The door system would not work as the upstate NY cold weather hardened the plastic tubing. I went to TSC and bought 10' of 3/8" ID EPDM Rubber Spray hose ($9.99) with a temp range -20 to 190. Has been working flawlessly! Rainer

Arduino controlled coop door help requested

If you get a chance, check out this seemingly simple H-Bridge. Seems to make sense? http://www.instructables.com/id/Super-Easy-Reversible-Motor-Control-for-Arduino-/step2/Schematic-and-Theory-of-Operation/

Arduino controlled coop door help requested

correct, they are limit switches. I will still have to wait for the motors to do a little trial and error. Could this be done with DPST relays as well? Rainer

Arduino controlled coop door help requested

The relay board I am using is about the same as the one in your picture - this one has 8 relays which can be controlled via LAN. I would imagine these are DPST relays which have position Always on and Always off. Do you think that would work, using a DTDP switch on each end of the door? Can...

Arduino controlled coop door help requested

That is a great idea!!! Love your usage of expired computer parts (I have a ton of them and keep finding different ways to use them as well). Have you already figured out a schematic/ wiring to allow the screw gun to reverse itself via relays? I see you use only one relay - I have not...

Arduino controlled coop door help requested

sciplu - checked it out first time - what a find! TY - great stuff in there. I am in as well as I am currently tinkering with MC boards (Webcontrol PCI and RaspberryPi) as well as door openers. My only hurdle is finding the right motor and gear/ sprocket/ chain assembly. I do believe I have...

My DIY Arduino automatic coop door opener

Fantastic! Not boring at all. I also started diving into RP1 and the WebControll PCI (which currently I prefer - has it's own PCI language and needs no other interface and is LAN capable with 8IO's and 8 Analog oututs as well as an inherent temp sensor supplying 8 ONE WIRE thermostats and one...

To add - we have 18 chickens and 3 7.5 wk peeps currently. The Peep and Broodie enclosure has a 3 cup heated dog/ cat water bowl which did not freeze (but I do not remember the wattage of it).

We also live in Upstate NY - currently about 10 degrees. We are happy with that, since last week was brutal. I constructed 2 7gal water buckets with horizontal nipples, internally one aquarium water circulator and one 25W aquarium submersible heater each. Having a temp proble record temps...

My DIY Arduino automatic coop door opener

Vasco, great idea - currently using an adoption of NYcue's water pump method for the coop door (not as heavy), but nee an electrical motor method for the Run door. A couple of questions: I am used to WebComponent PCI and RaspberryPi MP's. Is the Ardunio controllable over internet? (does it...

My DIY automatic chicken POP door opener/closer

This is a great idea which I have adopted to our own coop with a couple of minor modifications such as shut off switches and lights, but otherwise pretty original to yours - TY for the idea! Question - when temps are below 10 degrees, all works fine except the plastic tubing running between...
