By the way, she got better!!!! I gave her probiotics in her water. I tried Apple Cider Vinegar, but it wasn't effective. After about 1 week of priobiotic supplements, she smelled normal again.

Did you ever find out the cause? I have a baby chick that has a weird smell too! She's only a couple weeks old. She is the only one of 7 that has this smell. She smells like milk???
Did you ever discover the cause? I'm in a similar situation. My vet said Egg Peritonitis, but I just don't think so! He said that it's common in heavy egg laying breeds at about 3 years.
I had 2 3-year-old chickens die this way, mysteriously and suddenly.
Right, I meant Peritonitis, but my keyboard is funny.
She didn't have the posture for Peritonitis. I'm thinking it may have been coccidiosis, but I'm unsure of what that looks like exactly.
I made a post here...
Sorry, I got confused by your "member since" date, thinking it was the post date.
If you have her body, you could check for an egg in her vent, which might give you some answers.
I'm seeing this post was from a long time ago....did you ever discover the cause?
It sounds like an egg bound situation to me, but sometimes they do poop a lot when they die and that could cause a buldge.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Hello All,
We lost a chicken this morning and one several months ago. The way they behaved when they died makes me think they're connected, but I'm not sure.
My Rhoda, 3 yo Rhode Island Red got lethargic one day. I noticed she had a dirty butt so I gave her a bath and when she didn't perk up I...
Hello-- Sorry I was several months late to see this message!
But I came back to seek some advice and saw this.
We currently have 8 chickens...5 2-3 year old hens an 3 4 month hens.
We had a beloved hen die this morning of a total mystery cause, but it happened the same way that our last...
This has happened to me, a few months ago and just today-- especially with my Wyndotte. I think that her nails get too long and poke into her foot, causing an area for a bumblefoot type scab to form. But when I soak her feet and peel off the scab, there is NOTHING inside the wound that I've now...
Not that I know of. We've had hawk trouble in the past, and are on the lookout always. We have a hawk kite deterrent and all sorts of shiny things hung around that the hens have gotten used to for many months now.
There is a screen door on their porch which is super re-inforced, but it's...
Thank you, @Lillith37 ! That was very helpful information!
I will do as you recommend, keep treating and wrapping, but I'm going to leave her scab alone.
Thank you so much!
Hello All,
Something weird is going on!
My chickens will not fly down from the roosting beams in my coop! They are staying up there all day until I get on a ladder and carry them down!
One of my chickens is flying down normally- I think she may be the lowest on the pecking order chicken. But...
Thanks @pennyJo1960 ! I did those things, but was unable to find a core. Just felt cruel to continue poking around in her foot pad. Bandaged her up with antibiotic. I also gave her Enrotex yesterday, since she's been acting so lethargic and unlike herself.
