On the negative side, I had a female muscovy duck, years ago, that flew away in the middle of a terrible winter and apparently got frostbite on her feet. She returned home about 2 weeks later and I didn't know her feet were frostbitten until the bottom of her webbed feet came off in early...
Thank you for this article. I do heat the coop when the weather is really freezing, like below zero F. We use the flat heaters that go on the wall. I also rub Vaseline on the combs of my leghorn and Ancona roosters. It has helped.
My pullet has been vaccinated against Mareks. She has wry neck syndrome. I thought there might be way to stop the head spinning. She is on vitamin therapy and separated from the others. I feel so bad for her.
I have a 5 month old Crevecour with wry neck. I have been treating her with vet E, Selenium and vitamin B complex. I have had her to the vet and she tried a foam collar, but the pullet, Cora, became too stressed from it. I am glad I read that it takes some time to get better because I had...
I have a plastic net over the whole yard so hawks can't get my young chickens. I have a couple of Crevecours and I don't think they are able to see well, so I am considering a crest-cut. I have never done it before and I am nervous about doing it.
I have several buff rocks at present. They are beautiful and decent layers. I got them from Ideal Hatchery in Texas. The females are terrific, the males are strange.
I see very little interest in Buff Wyandottes. I think they are beautiful birds that should be kept as an extant breed. I had a few, but only one right now. A problem that I noticed in some was the point of the rose comb going up rather than down to follow the head. They are not the best...
Wow, I had some black Minorcas from Tommy Stanley. They were beautiful, big with nice combs. My male, Charlemagne, won Champion Mediterranean at the Sussex show some years ago. I wish I still had them. Good black Minorcas are difficult to find.
I have had myriad roosters. Some have been the nicest birds and others have been human aggressive. I had to re-home 2 of them because they went after my daughter when she was little. I would not kill a chicken any more than I would kill a dog or cat. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or...
