Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

About 2 weeks ago my chickens started pulling the hay out of their nesting boxes, each time I put some back in the next day it is on the floor. I had about 5 inches of pine shavings on the floor to begin with, now with all the hay it is getting deep. Any suggestions on what to put in the...

Thanks Mac, our winters are usually a dry cold. Elmo's comment about having two devices makes a lot of sense. Thanks..

    Humidity Level

Thank you for the information and link. I have a 3'x5' window in the coop that opens from the top and bottom. Currently I have it opened at the top and hope that will be fine. Thanks again.

    Humidity Level

What is considered a high humidity level in the coop? I picked up a weather station with a remote for the coop and this morning it reads 34 degrees and 48 percent humidity. Is this OK???

    After much research....

Thank you. After talking with a few people here in Alaska it was suggested by everyone to insulate the floor. I had a lot of material left over from a renovation last year so I put it to good use. Hopefully I can get the walls insulated and OSB up inside this weekend as well as complete the...

Thanks for the comments. The coop is 8' x 10' and will house our 8 hens. There will be a section 4' x 8' just inside the doorway for feed and the door to the nesting boxes.
