    Oriental Gamefowl Thread!

I'm not NPIP so I can't bring my birds across state lines. But there is at least one Orloff owner on BYC who is in SoCal, you should post a "wanted" inquiry on the Orloff thread.

    Chantecler Thread!

This is interesting, I hadn't heard of duckfoot being an issue in the Chanti breed. It's a big issue in my other breed, Russian Orloffs.

Where in NoCal and what color of Malay do you have (you can PM me)? I'm in Central OR and have been looking for Malay for a while. Would be very interested in getting a started trio, chicks, or eggs, in that order. I'm willing to drive for good birds, I will actually be driving from SoCal to CO...

BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

When I was first getting back into chickens I was convinced I had an egg-eater problem. Figured out after a while it was exactly what Beekissed described, opportunistic eaters due to shell issues. But before I figured it out, I spent time building a nice 8-hole set of rollout nest boxes. Since...

BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Karen, not Hellbender but I got White Chantecler from Gina Neta 2 years ago (via hatching eggs) and have been very happy with them. They lay well, nice big eggs, easily reach cock weights as cockerels, and the cockerels I butchered this year had plenty of meat on them.

Maybe a D'Uccle or D'Anver? If you got hatchery stock they probably won't be true to SOP but might be better layers.

lol I remember fondly when I got back into chickens and split an order of 25 with a friend, thinking at the time that was still way too many but I could sell always half. Fast forward a few years and now I'm just happy I got down into double digits before winter hit.

    Chantecler Thread!

Lol I just butchered 15 birds yesterday, mostly Chanteclers and Chanti cross cockerels. Nice big birds, I like when you pick them up and immediately think "now that's a bird worth eating!"

You probably won't have much luck trying to transfer fertile eggs at that point in incubation, you would be better off getting day old chicks then slipping them under your hen at night. Most broodies who have been sitting about three weeks will willingly adopt them.

I'm pushing triple digits, though that number will drop some after I finish my next round of butchering. I'd be happy if I were down to 50 going into winter. For housing I have two large shed style coops, one 10x12 and one 10x20, plus an overflow 6x20 open front building, all with attached runs...

If memory serves me right, when John Blehm got rid of his white Chantecler a number of them went to Cackle.
