    Chicken run skirt

My entire run/coop is covered by hardware cloth. The apron extends out 18 inches. I held it down with landscape staples until the grass could grow through it. Yhis pic is from a couple of years ago. The grass is now solid so you can't even see the apron.

It is 4 sq. ft. per bird for the coop. It is 1 linear foot per bird for the roost as a minimum

    Building Run From Scratch

Since you are building up layers, it is not necessary to use landscape cloth. Just build your layers.

The Hummingbirds have migrated south. I just took my feeders down in case there was a straggler. They will return next march.

We are contemplating a move to the Mobile, Spanish Fort or Daphne area. Does anyone know if any of these towns allow backyard ducks?

Also check this out on Facebook. If you are on facebook, search Mobile Bay Area Backyard Chicken club.

    Coop made of tin??

I would use the upper portion of your coop as ventilation. Leave the top 4 inches of the coop open (cover with HC) and provide a good overhang with the roof. This way all the humidity and hot air goes up and out. Here are two pictures of mine under construction quite a while back. You can...

    Hiding eggs or not laying?

If more than a year old they may be starting to molt or it is the light. Hiding eggs does happen as we just found one with a dozen eggs in it and they just finished molting. We do add extra light over the winter.

    Coop made of tin??

As long as you have a lot of ventilation you should be good. Your weather is similar to mine so summers are hot and humid and winters get lows in the teens and twenties on average.. Use a good wood floor and ventilate, ventilate, ventilate.

Check if you local homeless shelter or shelter for abused women and children can use them. I give my extras to our local Senior Center who use them for cooking.

Insulation or anything inside? Located in Washington

You don't need insulation unless you get way below zero. Chickens wear down coats. You do need lots and lots of ventilation. Ventilation keeps things dry and moisture is your enemy as it can cause frostbite and respiratory problems. Ventilation should be high and situated so that there is...

Review by 'Rldad1' in article 'Will it harm my birds? (Identification of diurnal raptors for birdkeepers)'

Good article but I should point out that here in the Southeastern U. S. the most likely hawks to take your poultry are the Red Tail, Cooper's, Sharpshinned and Red Shouldered. All of these have been known to take poultry especially Red Tail and Cooper's. Black Vultures will on occasion take...
