Egg laying stopped after crop issues

Hi there. I’ve been having a similarly issue with one of my hens. Pretty much same scenario as your Polly’s. She wears a crop bra because it’s remained slow, but otherwise acts normally. She’s been out with her sisters in the run and coop consistently for almost a month, but still not laying...

    Engorged impacted/pendulous crop

I am so sorry you ended up having to put her down :( I know that may end be the case for our Darcy girl, but I am trying to remain hopeful. I have a plan for now and if that doesn’t help, we can’t afford surgery or other expensive vet treatments, so will have to make the hard decision. Thanks...

Strange jerking and crop not completely emptying

Well, that’s good. Glad she improved before the ultrasound. It is confusing, though, isn’t it? Glad she’s otherwise normal with no other symptoms. My girl stills acts normal too, except she’s not laying, so I know it’s still a problem. We will see…

    Engorged impacted/pendulous crop

I’m so sorry you’ve had such a problem with your girls’ crop. And I’m sorry you haven’t had more responses from anyone here. I’m reading because I’m also looking for answers/ideas about my hen’s ongoing crop problem. How is Molé doing now?

Strange jerking and crop not completely emptying

Great to hear! So did you end up doing the ultrasound or no? We went on vacation for nearly two weeks and our hen’s crop is not better, but also not worse. Hard to know what to do at this point. Getting her a crop bra to help support and hopefully prevent pendulous crop and am going to try an...

Strange jerking and crop not completely emptying

Oh your poor Bantam baby! I’m sorry you’re both going through this. Hopefully the ultrasound will tell you what you need to know so you can treat her. That’s what’s hard, not knowing the cause, so any treatments are guesses. That’s where I am. We did take ours to the vet a couple weeks ago when...

Strange jerking and crop not completely emptying

Hi there, what did the vet say? I have a bird with very similar symptoms. Not quite impacted crop but not all the symptoms of sour crop either (no smelly breath). But her crop is won’t fully empty in the morning. She’s also stopped laying eggs. So far I’ve been using coconut oil and massages to...

Negative for parasites but still treat with Corid?

They’ve been having those for months now and no issues before. I can try cutting them out to see, though.

Negative for parasites but still treat with Corid?

11 months. Layer crumbles, black soldier flies for treats, occasionally hard boiled eggs, and they free range most days in the yard. I’ve cut back on allowing them to free range while trying to treat their diarrhea.

Negative for parasites but still treat with Corid?

Hi all, my 4 girls have had brown, runny sometimes just watery poop for about 2 weeks now. No other symptoms - they are otherwise their normal selves. I had a fecal test at the vet done and it was negative for parasites, but at a loss of what to do, she went ahead and told me to treat with...

    First Death

So sorry for your loss! 💔 I too just loss my first hen, also a Barred Rock. She was so sweet and mild-mannered. We don’t know what really happened either… a neighborhood dog got loose and into our yard and chased her into the woods. When we caught the dog, he didn’t have her. We searched for...

Lost a lovely hen today :(

She was beautiful! I’m sorry for your loss. It’s so sad, I know. I just experienced my first loss, one of our Barred Rocks, to a predator. It’s awful. They really are happiest out free ranging, but sadly it’s the riskiest too. My other girls are also being kept in their run for the next several...
