There's a guy on Gumtree advertising fertile eggs and chicks at dandenong north. He might have some older birds available. I got some eggs off him in october
I'm not an expert but usually the most obvious sign is physical defects at hatch (missing eyes, twisted beaks etc. Defects can be caused by incubator errors check incubator calibration and try another hatch)
Always check eggs that don't hatch for signs of inbreeding and incubation errors.
Ive...
Sounds like heat to me. And maybe the move to a big cage if they came from a small breeder cage they'll be very unfit and overweight and having room to run will puff them out. Even a few steps at a time.
I wouldn't worry I'd expect them to settle in a week or two
It could be just that it is starting to get daylight at that time and they're getting ready for a big day. My quail and chukars are always noisiest at first light.
I'm in Tassie and first light is around 4:00 I guess Sydney is about the same.
Letting your eggs age for a week makes peeling much easier for quail and chicken eggs.
And a pair of quail egg scissors makes frying/poaching quick and easy.
They were on 1/2" wire but I've moved them to the ground. I think the solid footing is helping. Their feet are perect it looks like their thighs are not strong enough to stand up straight they walk in half squat.
Hi everyone this is my first post on byc. I have been using it for reference for a year or so though.
I've got a half a dozen cots that weigh between 340g-360g at four weeks old but they seem to have some trouble walking is there any way to strengthen them or will they grow out of it?
