She tested positive for Mareks and negative for Leukosis. I’ve learned from a Mareks & ALV Facebook support group that the two diseases present so similarly that you really can’t diagnose without the PCR test.
Necropsy results are in. I have the option of testing for Mareks or Leukosis for an additional fee. I think I will do that I can have a definitive diagnosis so that I can make informed decisions about my flock moving forward. Any thoughts?
Update: she died overnight. She became so extremely thin and weak, despite eating normally. I think there was something else going on with her. I’m going to send her in for a necropsy and will update with the results.
I agree that it is interesting that the silkie still appears healthy, considering the breed tends to be more fragile.
