After many years of insistence by my wife I succumbed to the idea to have chickens. We plan a small flock, 8-9 hens and one rooster. We have a big place in the country, and at this time we plan to have free range chickens. At least they will be free in the afternoon, when we will keep our German Shepard dog in the kennel. Hope we don’t encounter problems with hawks, possibly rooster may warn hens to take cover (many trees and bushes are near the future location of the coop).
