I am in the UK were I live my local predetors are mostly fox's! They are a real pest as they will take the whole flock if they get in and will leave an all mighty mess behind. You just know when ones been by! Rats are another problem but I have never seen any in the garden thats about it for me...
Do you believe in giving suppliments like Apple Cyder and Viniger, poultry spice, Seaweed extract among others?
I've tried all of these and find they don't do much for my girls. Nothing beats what they can get scratching around in the garden.
Sounds like some good advice their. Healthy fit hens will not starve themselves they only eat what they need to if their is nothing but the layers mash for them they will soon start to eat the layers again.
If they have choice naturally they will pick out the best parts of the food and leave...
What do you feed your girls besides their generic poultry feed? And why? How often do you give treats and scraps? What do you consider none safe/poisoness food items for chickens??

I currently feed my girls on layers pellets very standered and boring its a complete food and I do give my girls left over ve, fruit and they free range when I am home.
I want to create a food that is natural and has variety I know the negatives to such a dish but I think I could manage it...
My advice?
- Buying the birds would not teach these people anything except that they can get away with animal abuse and would only encourage them to buy more animals in replace of the old ones. You could offer to take the birds off her hands if she can't cope with them or explain to the kids...
