    DIY Thermostat-Controlled Incubator for $12.

Does the thermostat turn the power supply on and off to the whole thing (fan and peltier plate)?? I feel like if the fan wasn't running, it might not kick back on soon enough. I guess the thermostat probe or whatever it has at egg level would be ok. But if the eggs are lower(cool air sinks)...

    Guinea talk.

I currently have 8 guinea... Too many for my small nighttime fortknox coop. They upset the harmony, so they've been booted out into solitude, kennel confinement. I want to keep a few, but I plan to sell 4-5. Not sure if they're male or female. I know 2 are male because they we're mating my...

New Gutters and small drain ditches are my friend!! Springtime, I will be sowing grass and ensuring it thrives with some wire covered frames I saw on here somewhere(so the flock doesn't destroy it 2 mins after planting) Might throw some sand and gravel in places that are to heavily used for...

    Sand as litter?

I'd hope it isn't dusty  Cats are pretty sensitive when it comes to upper respiratory problems....

    Sand as litter?

Or, maybe that paper bedding, like the stuff people use for ferrets. I know people with chickens usually go with the cheap wood shavings cause they poop a ton of times EVERYWHERE, and fling it everywhere.

    Sand as litter?

Makes sense. I free range, so there is no bedding. They go in the coop to sleep and its elevated with a harware cloth bottom. I just shovel out where it piles up. Didn't know if litter would be easier to scoop out, last longer even though it costs more? I don't know if chickens will eat enough...

Do you want anything for them?? Around me, they'd be $35 for the trio. Gas money for the trip?

I was going to ask about the waterer, but I found the answer. Awesome setup all around! Nice design and woodworking.

I'm near Greeneville... Not sure if you'd consider that reasonable... Of course, I could meet halfway if I needed to.

3 months and that caruncle, I'd say a drake. That first pic is hilarious. He's got the "what did you just say" look.:gig

    My chicken is hideous. Why?

Looks like a meat bird. (they're always the ugliest) my leghorn mix always looks kind of grungy. I think they're just a little different

    Ideas on a self-sustainable flock?

I got mixed chicks to start with, kept all the roos and hens. One year later (plus 3 more hens) Hatched out a mixture of eggs just to try to get a few more layers, and I have no idea which rooster it was doing all the mating, and can't remember which hens the eggs were from:oops:. I'll have to...
