    I used to throw the grain on the ground -- never doing that again. The coop sits on the ground and the rats are living underneath it. I want to find some way to raise it up on concrete blocks so there's space underneath for chickens to scratch, and also so I can more easily get at the ratholes...

    I've always understood that our local blacksnakes/rat snakes will eat rats. These guys can get pretty big. I remember when I was a kid, we had this clubhouse up in this big old silver maple, but that came to an abrupt end when I climbed up one day and found a three-foot long ratsnake happily...
